The ward is more likely to be unsafe if the number of staff on duty cannot safely
complete the care needs below:
• Observations (especially post op NEWS and "Specials")
• Meals and feeding of patients
• Hydration of patients (drinks and IV or NG fluids)
• Pressure Area Care
• Drug administration and oxygen therapy
• Staff can take their statutory rest breaks
Green - Staffing numbers are as expected on the rota and ward is assessed as being safely staffed taking into consideration workload
and patient acuity. Staffing numbers are not as expected but safe according to current workload
