Los Angeles Basic facts • second largest city in the USA • largest city in California • founded in 1781 by a Spanish governor, later became a part of Mexico and in 1848 purchased by the United states • Nicknamed L.A. , City of Angeles or the Entertainment capital of the world (Hollywood) Panorama of Los Angeles Climate • semi-tropical • there are many palm trees and beaches. Grifith Observatory The observatory is a popular tourist attraction with an extensive array of space- and science-related displays. Los Angeles City Hall • built in 1928 • the concrete in its tower was made using sand from each of the 58 counties of California and water from each of the 21 missions. UCLA • The University of California Los Angeles has the largest enrollment of any university in the state. • Over 33,000 students attend UCLA. WALK OF FAME - a pavement along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA - serves as an entertainment museum - is embedded with more than 2,000 five-pointed stars featuring the names of human celebrities but and also fictional characters - chosen by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for their contributions to the entertainment industry. Street performers perform on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
