Basic Statistics
You can get several standard statistics for a data set stored in a list. Press
STAT CALC 1:1-Var Stats, enter the name of the list, and press
If the
frequencies of the data values are stored in another list, enter both list names
separated by a comma. The following values will be displayed.
ii
=
the mean.
=
the sum of the x-values.
x2 =
2
the sum of the squares of the x-values.
=
the sample standard deviation.
=
the population standard deviation.
n
=
the number of data values.
minX
=
the minimum data value.
Qi

Box Plots
The calculator can display up to three box plots at once. First, set up each
plot, and then set up the window.
For help setting the Plot Setup screen, see Note iF. There are two types of
box plots. The first type marks outliers as special. The calculator uses the
standard rule for defining an outlier: Values greater than Q
3 + 1.5 IQR or
than
less
1.5 IQR are outliers. If you select this type of box plot, you
1
Q
must choose what mark to use for an outlier. The second type of box plot
does not show outliers as different from other data points.
—
After setting up all your plots, go to the Window screen to set your graphing
window. See Note iF for help determining the window values to use. In a
box plot Ymin, Ymax, and Ysci can be any value as long as Ymin is less than
‘Ymax. When you are finished setting your window values, press GRAPHI.
