TROUBLESHOOTING X6700HRT (EP77) Troubleshooting CONSOLE/DISPLAY PROBLEMS Symptom Blank Console Solution 1. 2. Symptom Console starts ok, but goes blank after a few seconds of use. Symptom Display goes into engineering mode by itself Date of last revision: 11.07 Check power as follows: • 5.5VDC and 14VDC need to be present at the console while pedaling slowly. Check voltages at console AND lower board (see electrical diagram and System Detail Supplement). • If correct voltages are present at console, replace console. • If voltages are not present at console, check lower board. - If voltages are present at lower board BUT NOT at console, replace wire harness. - If voltages are not present AT LOWER BOARD, check generator voltage. Check generator (see electrical diagram and Troubleshooting Supplement). • If generator voltages are correct AND equal between phases, replace lower board. • If generator voltages are incorrect, replace generator. Solution 1. Console is not receiving RPM signal from lower board. • Check RPM signal at lower board. (see electrical diagram) If signal is present at lower board check for signal at console. • If signal is present at console, replace console. • If signal is present at lower board but NOT present at console, replace wire harness. Solution 1. JP1 pins behind console are touching (shorted). • Separate the 2 pins from touching 74 ELLIPTICAL.TROUBLESHOOTING.EP77.REV1 X6700HRT (EP77) Troubleshooting TROUBLESHOOTING SPEED AND CALORIES PROBLEMS Symptom Speed/Distance values seem way off. Symptom ALL Speed, Distance, Calories, and Watts readings are missing. Symptom Calories are double or 1/2 of correct value. ELLIPTICAL.TROUBLESHOOTING.EP77.REV1 Solution 1. Miles/Kilometer switch in Engineering Mode is set incorrectly • Change in Engineering Mode Solution 1. 2. Check for presence of RPM signal in Engineering Mode (See Engineering Guide- SUBGROUP Eng3) If no RPM display in Engineering Mode, signal is likely missing at console • Check wire harness, lower board and generator(See electrical diagram and Troubleshooting Supplement) Solution 1. Console may be configured for Bike. • See engineering guide to configure console for Elliptical 75 Date of last revision: 11.07 TROUBLESHOOTING X6700HRT (EP77) Troubleshooting HEART RATE PROBLEMS Symptom No Heart Rate Symptom No Heart Rate (After checking for environmental disturbances) Solution 1. Solution 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Symptom Heart Rate is intermittent and/or erroneous Clean grip contacts with rubbing alcohol. Check HR function in Engineering Mode (See Engineering Guide - SUBGROUP Eng3) If no heart rate from chest strap OR contact grips: • Replace console If no heart rate from chest strap, but HR works with contact grips: • Replace transmitter or transmitter batteries If no heart rate from contact grips, but HR works with chest strap: • Check all connections between grips, grip wires and console • If all connections seem ok replace grips and wires • Replace console Solution 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Date of last revision: 11.07 ALL HEART RATE ISSUES should first be addressed by eliminating any possible environmental disturbances. Such disturbances can be caused by: • Electronic pet fences, cell phones, cordless phones, TV remotes, TVs in close proximity, radios and stereos in close proximity, satellite dishes, fluorescent lights, etc. Clean grip contacts with rubbing alcohol. Eliminate any environmental disturbances. (see HEART RATE ISSUES above) Check HR function in Engineering Mode (See Engineering Guide - SUBGROUP Eng3) Check transmitter batteries Check all connections between contact grips, grip wires and console • Replace transmitter/batteries and/or grips and wires. • Replace console 76 ELLIPTICAL.TROUBLESHOOTING.EP77.REV1 X6700HRT (EP77) Troubleshooting TROUBLESHOOTING RESISTANCE (BRAKE) PROBLEMS Symptom No Resistance Symptom Resistance is too weak or too strong Solution 1. Solution 1. 2. 3. ELLIPTICAL.TROUBLESHOOTING.EP77.REV1 Check connections of the braking resistor at the lower board. The Braking Resistor is the very large external (aluminum) resistor mounted on the frame of the elliptical or trainer in close proximity to the lower control board. If the Braking Resistor is not connected securely ALL resistance will be lost • See electrical diagram Check Brake Function Test in Engineering Mode (See Engineering Guide - SUBGROUP Eng4) Check connections of the wire harness at the lower board and the console. The console controls the resistance level via the D/A signal. Check the D/A voltage level at the lower board. (see electrical diagram AND brake voltage chart) 77 Date of last revision: 11.07 TROUBLESHOOTING X6700HRT (EP77) Troubleshooting NOISE PROBLEMS Symptom There is a squeak or noise that appears to be coming from the roller wheels. Symptom Solution 1. Solution 1. If the noise is in one particular spot during the during the rotation of the disk 2. (i.e. the three O’clock position), the noise can be narrowed to external linkage, or crank bearings. Symptom Check the tightness of all external linkages. If you find a loose or sloppy joint, tighten the hardware to this joint. It may be necessary to add a wavy washer to some joints. If all external linkages are tight, it is likely that the crank bearings are bad. Replace the crank bearings or crank assembly. Solution 1. If the noise can not be narrowed down to a specific position during the rotation of the disk, it is likely that the problem is related to the flywheel or center axle set. Date of last revision: 11.07 Verify that the roller wheels and tracks are in good condition. Assure there are no bumps or dents in either. Clean both the wheels and the tracks. Remove the covers and check the flywheel operation. Change flywheel bearings if necessary. 78 ELLIPTICAL.TROUBLESHOOTING.EP77.REV1
