Communication
Sudit Kumar Sahoo

• Communication is the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person
to another through verbal or non-verbal means.
• Evolution of the brain differentiated humans from animals, as among other things it
allowed humans to master a very efficient form of communication - speech.
•
In today's world, development of different media has led to the communication
process to take place by different means such as telephones, teleconferences and
video conferences.
• Effective communication is the communication which produces intended or desired
result”
• Effective Communication is a two way process – sending the right message and to
the right person.
For a good oral presentation, the quality of text being prepared and the way it is presented
are equally important. An organized text presentation allows the orator to proceed smoothly
from point-to-point. Presenting relevant data through the presentation is first and foremost
point to be kept in the mind. The speech/presentation should be interactive.
• It is necessary to develop oral communication skills to survive in today's world.
Individual and business relations can be developed and maintained with the help of
these skills.
• In the modern world, oral communication plays a crucial role in our personal growth
and to create our impression among others.
•
Moreover, communication is essential as it is also the mode (medium) for transfer of
ideas from one person to another.
REFLECTION
• If there had been no means of communication among human beings, even many
scientific inventions and discoveries would not have been possible due to the inability
to transfer prerequisite knowledge from one generation to another.
•
We should not be afraid to express our opinion confidently in front of others.
• .We should always take into consideration the fact that our speaking skills have a deep
impact on others and people analyze our character according to it.
• The human emotions interpret the words and transform them into feelings.
7 ‘’C’s of communication.
1. Completeness
2. Conciseness
3. Consideration
4. Clarity
5. Concreteness
6. Courtesy
7. Correctness.

Farmington, a unique experience…

This is my experience in the US, during my Educursion this year. It was a beautiful day,
extremely cold and a new experience for all of us going from a tropical climate. But, we
had no luxury of covering ourselves from top to bottom and enjoying the cold. We had our
hectic schedule lined up for the whole day. First, the assembly in the school, where we had
a song performance including three songs. The assembly begun with a song performance
paying tribute to our motherland followed by two other inspirational songs. Then we had a
fashion show depicting unique dressing culture of various parts of India; Odisha, Rajasthan,
Kerela, Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi. This was followed with an enchanting dance
performance by all of us on a popular Bollywood number. I really liked the interactive
session most, where we shared our exclusive and respective school experience with each
other. However, the most meaningful engagement was preserved for the last and it was a
participative session called “FRIENDS” with differently abled children where we made
play-do together. It was fun! Last, but not the least a concert in the school presented by the
student orchestra of Farmington school. It was amazing! Then we went on to shadow our
hosts for the rest of the day. The evening was superb, exiting, exclusive and of course
informal and friendly, the potluck dinner with all the host families. We had lazzaniya,
pizza, rice, cookies, cakes, pasta and many more. Finally we wrapped up with the talent
show organized by the school. It really was incredible. It was a superb day: busy,
interactive, informative and amazing! I enjoyed it a lot!!

Nature’s magic
Jignasa Sahani

I see the Sunset and Sunrise
And the Horizon that's a prize
How the colours mix and melt
And look as soft as felt
How they float away into black
As I wish them back
And then I see the stars
They seem so small they could fit in jars
How they shine so bright
And don't put up a fight
I stand watching them twinkle and shine
How lovely they look when they all combine
And form constellations
I wonder how beautiful is nature’s formation
Then I wish I could talk with the moon
And that it could reply me back soon
But that’s not possible
So I just say
Goodbye!

My Best Friend
We all have friends. Some are good, some are bad. Some are caring, some don't bother to
look at us. Some are sweet, some are rude and arrogant. Some are sharing, some are selfish.
But the question which arises here is that, do we like all of them? No, we don't.All of us have
a wish to have a special friend. A friend, who will help us when we are in need, who will
always be there with us for our support and would never let us feel alone, who will have the
power to show us a ray of hope even when we are completely hopeless, who can cheer us up
in times when we are deeply sad and hurt, who can calm us down when we are bursting with
anger, who would not be able to sleep and stay awake the whole might seating by us when
we are ill, who will smile in our happiness, who will cry in our sorrow, who will always
advice us to walk in the right path and would not tolerate any of our mistakes, is called a
true friend. Someone, who cares for us, and loves us dearly.I had always been in search of
such a friend. But now I realize that who actually is my best friend. I was unaware of this
from so many days. I had never understood the importance of having someone so very
special. Yes, I am talking about my mom.
Mother is a divine gift to us. If we are alive on earth, then it's only because of her. It was
she who tolerated all the pain of keeping her child in her womb for 9 months, but didn't
complain even once. She brought us into this world .It's a mother ,who brings us up with
utmost love and care. It's true that mothers becomes furious when we take a wrong step, and
she scolds and beats us, but there’s love in these striking words. And she is the one who
again comes and comforts us with her loving words, and makes us understand what is right
and what is wrong. A mother is our first teacher, who teaches us the aspects of life and
makes us stand on our feet. She tries to fulfil all our desires ,but doesn't look at her own
wishes. Shouldn't we be greatly obliged to her for all that she has sacrificed for us?
Most of the time, in this modern generation, we get irritated about what she says, and end
up in arguing with her. But just think! When she has done so much for us, doesn’t she also
have the rights to keep expectations from us? It's our duty that we try our best to live up to
her expectations.
A mother's debt is unrepayable. Lastly, I would like to conclude by stating that, 'People say,
first love is unforgettable, then how do we forget our mother's love?'

What is a FALLACY?
A fallacy is a mistaken belief, especially one based
on unsound arguments. It can also be described as
delusion, misconception, misbelief, misapprehension,
error, mistake, miscalculation or a simple fantasy!
Ad Hominem
 When someone directly attacks the person, instead of attacking the argument, it is an
ad hominem argument.
In this we see that the lobster is
personally attacking the little shrimp.
He is attacking the shrimp not on the
basis of his argument for ruling, but
on his personal characteristics!
BANDWAGON FALLACY
When a concept is considered true because lots of people consider it’s true, it is a bandwagon
fallacy. Just because the majority of people are doing something, I too want to do it and jump
on the bandwagon!!
The single man, who is standing
on the bus line, is tempted to
join the majority who are
standing on the bandwagon line.
He too literally wants to jump on
the bandwagon only because
everybody is, availing it!!!
Red Herring Argument
When someone diverts the attention away from the topic to a new topic to throw you off and
win the argument.
This usually happens, in arguments, where a person on the losing side wants to defend
himself. So he simply broaches up a new topic to divert the attention of the others away from
the original topic and they all start debating on the new topic.
Duckling A: It is my contention that the Flying Spaghetti Monster does exist!!!
Duckling B: What evidence do you have to support such an assertion?
Duckling A: Oh there is plenty of evidence; it is all around us!!!
Duckling A: Besides look at how I am standing on one leg!!!!
