Felsic Volcanism
By: Katelyn Morrey
Felsic
Is an igneous rock that is relatively rich in
elements that form feldspar and quartz. The
word itself is a combination of the words
“feldspar” and “silica”. For a rock to be classified
as felsic it generally needs to contain more than
75% felsic minerals. Felsic can also be called
Felsite which are very fine-grained, lightcolored volcanic rocks.
Silicic
Is used to describe magma or an igneous rock
rich in silica.
Rhyolite
Rhyolite is an igneous rock of felsic composition. Usually
quartz, sanidine, and plagioclase. Some of the places it
occurs in are Vosges
Iceland
Black Forest
Odenwald
Rocky Mountains
Rhyolite, Nevada
