Lesson 10.1 Graphing quadratic functions Quadratic Function- a nonlinear function that can be written in the standard form y=ax2+bx+c. Every quadratic function will create a U-shape graph. Parabola- The U-shaped graph that is created by any quadratic equation in the form y=ax2+bx+c Parent Quadratic Function- The quadratic equation in the form y=x2 y=x2 X Values -2 0 Values 2 Y 4 0 4 Vertex- The highest or lowest point on the parabola. The vertex of the graph of the parent function is (0,0). Axis of Symmetry-The line that passes through the vertex and divides the parabola into two symmetric parts. Graph y=3x2 and compare it to the parent function -2 0 2 Graph y=-1/4x2 and compare it to the parent function Graph y=x2+5 and compare it to the parent function
