REBALANCE AGEING POPULATION CHRISTOPHER COCO REYNALDO LAK KAH MING BENJAMIN KOO MINDMAP • Increase retirement age to 67 • Limit purchase of cigarette and alcohol • Enforce to have 2 children per family • Give an injection of fund to support the kids • Decrease working time • Allow human cloning PROBLEM • Low fertility rate at 1.2% • Birth rate is lower than the replacement rate at 2.1% • Economy will be affected due to greater population of elderlies SOLUTIONS FUTURE PLAN HUMAN CLONING GENERAL IDEA • Human cloning is the creation of a genetically identical copy of a human. • 2 types of human cloning • Therapeutic cloning • For medical use • Reproductive cloning • Making an entire cloned human HOW DOES IT WORK IS IT POSSIBLE? • History • First successful nuclear transplant with a frog in 1952 • First mammal created by somatic cell nuclear transfer tested with a sheep named Dolly in 1996 • First primate created by embryonic cell nuclear transfer in 1997 • Scientifically possible ADVANTAGES • Genetic illness can be eliminated • Clone only the healthy cells • Replace damaged organs • Grow a new organ • Replace lost family members • Increase workforce HOW IT REBALANCE THE AGEING POPULATION? • More manpower • Boost the economy if we clone the potential people • Increase Singapore’s average IQ • Attract more foreign investors • Increase the ratio of senior citizens aged 65 and above to working adults IMMEDIATE PLAN DECREASE WORKING HOURS GENERAL IDEA • Singapore working hours is currently 9 hours/day • Singaporeans are not having enough time: • For themselves (enjoy their hobbies) • For their kids (nurture them with love and care) • Fatigue over work due to long hours results in low birth rate HOW DOES IT WORK • This scheme reduce the amount of working hours to 7 hours • Applicants are eligible for this scheme as long as they need it • Both working parents can enjoy the benefits • Salary will be deducted depending on the company ADVANTAGES Family Intimate time Relaxation HOW IT REBALANCE THE AGEING POPULATION? • Increase fertility rate to around replacement rate at 2.1% • More young people in the future • Increase Singapore happiness level • Less stress with work • Time is the greatest resources in the world CONCLUSION • Human Cloning • Approve research and more research has to be done • Educate and convince people that this method is perfectly fine • Fast way to reproduce & fast solution to ageing population • Decrease working hours • Can be implemented straightaway • Provide an option for Singaporeans to work lesser hours
