Trousdale County Schools Weekly Lesson Plan Teacher: Canaan Bowman Pacing Guide Week #: 11 Dates: 10/14-10/17 4 days Subject: Geometry Common Core Standard(s) to be taught: (Write the entire standard) CCSS G.CO.7 – Use the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions to show that two triangles are congruent if and only if corresponding pairs of sides and corresponding pairs of angles are congruent. CCSS G.CO.8 – Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS) follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions. CCSS G.CO.9 – Prove theorems about lines and angles. Theorems include: vertical angles are congruent; when a transversal crosses parallel lines, alternate interior angles are congruent and corresponding angles are congruent; points on a perpendicular bisector are exactly those equidistant from the segment’s endpoints. CCSS G.CO.10 – Prove theorems about triangles. Theorems include: measure of interior angles of a triangle sum to 180 degrees, base angles of an isosceles triangle are congruent, the segment joining midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side and of the length; the medians of a triangle meet at a point. SPI(s) to be taught: (Write the entire SPI) SPI 3108.1.1 – Give precise mathematical descriptions or definitions of geometric shapes in the plane and space. SPI 3108.4.2 – Define, identify, describe, and/or model plane figures using appropriate mathematical symbols (including collinear and non-collinear points, lines, segments, rays, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons). SPI 3108.4.3 – Identify, describe and/or apply the relationships and theorems involving different types of triangles, quadrilaterals and other polygons. SPI 3108.4.11 – Use basic theorems about similar and congruent triangles to solve problems. SPI 3108.4.12 – Solve problems involving congruence, similarity, proportional reasoning and/or scale factor of two similar figures or solids. Daily practice activity for citing text based evidence in conversation and/or writing: I Can Statements : Student Agenda: I can apply theorems about triangles to prove whether Posted daily but NOT included in Lesson Plan two triangles are congruent and solve problems. I can apply theorems about triangles to prove that corresponding parts of two triangles are congruent. Assessment Strategies (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): Assessment used to determine mastery daily: If a quiz or test is given, include in the Teacher’s Lesson Plan Notebook. Instructional Materials (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): All instructional materials are to be included in the Teacher’s Lesson Plan Notebook. Instruction: In outline form, describe each day of instruction. Day 1 1st Block - Bellringer – practice proving triangles congruent - Go over KUTA WS Homework - Practice making two-column proofs - Notes over Lesson 4-3 - Practice proving triangles congruent using two-column proofs - Textbook Assignment (Lesson 4-3) - PLAN Practice 2nd Block - Bellringer – Mid Ch. Quiz (Review) - Review CRA task - Practice problems in Lesson 4-4 - PLAN Practice - Textbook Assignment (Lesson 4-4) Formative Assessment: Bellringer Homework Student responses when called upon Observations during guided practice 1 Day 2 1st Block - Bellringer – proving triangles congruent - Quiz – Proving Triangles Congruent - Practice Problems in Lesson 4-4 - PLAN Practice – (finding the ratio of a segment) - Textbook Assignment (Lesson 4-4) 2nd Block - Bellringer – PLAN Practice - Prove Isosceles Triangle Theorem - Notes – Lesson 4-5 - Guided Practice - Textbook Assignment (Lesson 4-5) Day 3 1st Block - Bellringer – PLAN Practice - Prove Isosceles Triangle Theorem - Notes – Lesson 4-5 - Guided Practice - Textbook Assignment (Lesson 4-5) 2nd Block - Bellringer – PLAN Practice - Practice using TI Inspires to solve systems of linear equations - Chapter 4 Quiz Bellringer Day 4 1st Block - Bellringer – PLAN Practice - Practice using TI Inspires to solve systems of linear equations - CRA Practice 2nd Block - Bellringer – PLAN Practice - CRA Practice Day 5 Bellringer Quiz – Triangle Congruence Homework Student Responses when called upon Students’ proofs of the isosceles triangle theorem Bellringer Students’ proofs of the isosceles triangle theorem Observations during guided practice Chapter 4 Quiz CRA Practice Day 6 Day 7 Alternate Instructional Interventions: Provide a specific plan for alternate instructional interventions, or re-teaching. KUTA Software will be used to provide additional problems for practice of concepts in which students show difficulty. Instructional technologies to enhance learning: List how each will enhance the effectiveness of the lesson. TI Inspire – allows students to graphically see how to solve systems of linear equations with a calculator MOBI – aids visual learners by providing diagrams and pictures of the concepts being learned KUTA Software – provides a quick and easy set-up of skill based problems that are projected on the white board for students to solve 2
