Objectives of presentation
• Provide overview of biosocial data collection for

• Collection of biomarkers part of overall study
objectives
• Funds from Large Facilities Capital Fund to support
collection from part of the sample
• Needs to move quickly, to complete collection by
2012
• Funds for range of biomarkers, anthropometric and
functional measures from adults
• Will collect from BHPS sample and from random
sample of adults from new samples
• Seek future support for additional collections

exposure and antecedent factors of health status,
understanding disease mechanisms and pathways,
household and socioeconomic effects
• Interaction of social and biological factors in behaviour
• Support social science and biomedical research and
research linking the two
• Resource for wide range of interdisciplinary research
