Power Supply Product
Point of Load DC-DC converter delivers 20A from 5V and 12V bus
voltages
7 January 2016
Ref: LA005958
TDK Corporation announces the introduction of the iBH series of 80W, 20A Point of Load (POL) nonisolated DC-DC converters, featuring a wide 0.7V to 5.5V output adjustment range. The iBH converters
can operate from either 5V or 12Vdc bus voltages, having a wide input voltage range of 3.5V to 14V,
reducing inventory carrying costs by stocking just one part number.
Measuring just 20.3 x 11.4 x 9.9mm and weighing just 6g, these compact converters demonstrate an
increase in output current of over 66% compared to TDK-Lambda’s similarly sized iBF series. The iBH
series is suited for a number of applications, including datacom, telecom, industrial, broadcast and test and
measurement equipment.
With efficiencies of up to 96% the full 80W output of 5V at 16A can be achieved in natural convection with
ambient temperatures of 55 ºC. With forced air cooling the temperature can be increased to 75ºC, and with
derating the converters can operate in ambient temperatures in excess of 100ºC. The iBH converters have
excellent transient response characteristics, without the need for externally mounted loop tuning circuitry.
Standard features include a trim pin for output voltage adjustment, positive remote sense, remote on-off
(positive or negative logic), input under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. A Power
Good (low on fail) signal provides indication that the output outside of the +/-12% set point tolerance, due to
input under-voltage, overload, over-temperature or loss of control conditions.
Safety certification includes IEC/EN 60950-1, UL/CSA 60950-1 with CE marking for the Low Voltage and
RoHS2 Directives.
