Transversals & Special Angle Pairs
A transversal is a line which
intersects two coplanar lines at
different points.
In the figure below,
line ____ is a
transversal.

When you have a transversal, there
are four types of special pairs of
angles that are formed.
Corresponding angles are two angles
in the same position relative to the
two lines and the transversal.

4 & 6
2 & 8
3 & 7
Same-side interior angles are two
angles on the same side of the
transversal and between the two lines.
2 & 5
3 & 6
Alternate interior angles are two
angles on opposite sides of the
transversal and between the two lines.

Alternate exterior angles are two
angles on opposite sides of the
transversal and outside the two lines.
