Great Barrier Reef
WHERE IS IT?
The Great Barrier Reef is located in Australia it stretches from Cairns down south
of Gladstone.
This picture represents where the Great barrier reef is, and its co-ordinates.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composed of over
2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,600 kilometres over
an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. It is the only natural living
thing that can be seen from space
The Great Barrier Reef is made up of living organisms like coral and fish, with
lots of different colours and different species of fish.
The Great Barrier Reef is a breeding ground for Migrating Humpback whales
from the Antarctic; it is also home to the endangered species of Sea Cows. There
are as many as 1500-2000 different species of tropical fish, it also inhabits over
400 different rare species of coral.
The Great Barrier Reef is also a major tourist attraction for Australia, because it
is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. People come and stay in resorts
along the coast of the Reef for Holidays and scuba diving trips. It is also home to
some major attractions like the wit Sundays and Thursday Island.
WHY IS IT WORLD HERITAGE
1.
GBR reef meets criteria standards 7,8 and 9
7. - The GBR is of superlative natural beauty above and below the water, and
provides some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. It is one of a few living
structures visible from space.
8. - The GBR, extending 2,000 kilometres along Queensland's coast, is a globally
outstanding example of an ecosystem that has evolved over millennia. The area
has been exposed and flooded by at least four glacial and interglacial cycles.
9. - The globally significant diversity of reef and island morphologies reflects
ongoing geomorphic, oceanographic. The Great Barrier Reef is migrating and
mating place for whales, it includes over 4,000 species of molluscs, over 1,500
species of fish, plus a great diversity of sponges, anemones, marine worms,
crustaceans, and many others.

Memphis and its Necropolis – the Pyramid Fields from Giza
to Dahshur
WHERE IS IT?
The Pyramids of Giza a found in the North of
Egypt. The 16,000 Ha field is located 9km
inland of the town Giza.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
The Pyramids of Giza consist of the Great Pyramid of Giza, the somewhat small
Pyramid of Khafre a few hundred meters to the southwest, and the relatively
modest-sized Pyramid of Menkaure a few hundred meters further southwest.
The Great Sphinx lies on the east side of the complex. The Pyramids of Giza are
considered one the “Seven Wonders of the World”.
The Sphinx
The largest and most famous sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza, sited at the
Giza Plateau adjacent to the Great pyramids of Giza on the west bank of the Nile
River and facing due east (29°58′31″N 31°08′15″E). The sphinx is located in the
north and below the pyramids. Although the date of its construction is uncertain,
the head of the Great Sphinx now is believed to be that of the pharaoh Kharfa.
