 Each person needs 3 envelopes and 9 cards
 On the next page after your Heat Transfer notes, write “Heat Card Sort” at the
top of the page along with the date and the page number.
 Glue your envelopes to the page
 On one envelope, write radiation and its definition. On the other two write
conduction, convection, and their definitions.
 Each index card will be an example of one of these. Write the example on the
card and draw a picture.
1) The heat you feel when you stand next to but don’t touch a hot oven.
2) The cold air outside the shower pushes the shower curtain towards you.
3) A metal knife gets hot sitting on top of the toaster.
4) Your steak gets grill lines on it from where it touched the grill.
5) The hot water in a pot rises to the top, gets cold, sinks down, and gets hot again.
6) The smoke from a fire rises up a chimney.
7) On a hot, sunny day, the street looks “shimmery” and feels hot when you stand
next to it.
 8) Your friend warms up their hands and puts them on top of yours, making your
hands feel warm too.
 9) You stand close to a fire in order to get warm.







