Alongside his contemporaries in the New York jazz scene, the two-time winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award presents a set of original compositions with appeal to a wide span of music fans and jazz lovers alike. “Songs Without Words”, their debut record, was released in April 2012 on OA2 Records. The record was reviewed in publications including All About Jazz, Jazz Weekly and Jazzthing, received airplay on radio stations across the US, Canada and Germany and was featured on the Lufthansa inflight entertainment program. The release tour included 26 dates in six different countries. Now they are presenting the follow-up album, “Falling Up”, with seven brand new originals and two arrangements of the Beatles classic, “Eleanor Rigby”, and the folk song, “Black is the Color”. The players’ individual track records are as impressive. Florian Hoefner was part of nine commercial CD releases on labels like ENJA Records and Freshsounds Records, including a collaboration with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel and is a two-time winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award. Matt Marantz on tenor sax is a graduate of the famous Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and has performed with Herbie Hancock and Jack DeJohnette. Bassist Sam Anning is the winner of the Bell Award as Young Jazz Musician of the Year in Australia and has performed with artists including Kenny Werner, George Garzone and Jim Black. Drummer Peter Kronreif has played on more than 30 CD releases and as a sought-after tour drummer can be heard all over the world. His piano playing is featured on nine international CD releases. Performances have brought him to numerous countries on four different continents, including venues and festivals like Jazz Baltica (Germany), Bohemia Jazz Fest (Czech Republic), Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola NY (USA) and Porgy & Bess Vienna (Austria). He has shared the stage with artists including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joe Lovano, Seamus Blake, John Riley and Tim Ries. In April 2014 he will be appearing at the “Piano Jazz Series” at the Blues Alley in Washington, D.C. and will perform solo piano alongside Chick Corea, Cyrus Chestnut and Taylor Eigsti. While still a student at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, he won his first of two ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards. His big band compositions have been premiered by the German National Jazz Orchestra, the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra and the New York Jazz Orchestra. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Matt Marantz grew up in a musical family and attended high school at the Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet, gaining early recognition for his talents by publications such as Downbeat Magazine, Jazziz Magazine, and was even invited to the 2004 White House NEA Jazz Masters induction ceremony to perform in an ensemble led by Dr. Billy Taylor for then US President George W. Bush in Washington, D.C. After graduation, Matt moved to New York City to finish his Bachelor’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music. Right after, he was selected as one of the 2009-2011 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz artistdiploma class members, studying improvisation and composition with Terence Blanchard for 2 years. While in attendance there, he had the opportunity to study and perform with the likes of Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, and Jason Moran before going on to earn a master's degree in jazz performance from William Paterson University of New Jersey in 2013. In 2010 Marantz released a debut album, "Offering", which was received with critical warmth. "Offering" is a collection of Marantz's original compositions performed by his NY band including guitarist Steve Cardenas (Charlie Haden, Paul Motian) and pianist Sam Harris (Ambrose Akinmusire.) Matt Marantz continues to lead his own bands at venues in NYC and co-leads a band with brother and pianist Luke Marantz called The Primary Colors which released a debut album in 2012. Sam Anning is one of Australia’s foremost up-and-coming Jazz musicians. After graduating from WAAPA in Perth, completing a Bachelor of Jazz, Sam went on to study and perform in New York City, the U.K., and Europe, where he also developed and broadened his compositional and performance style. In 2011 he completed his Master of Music at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Sam has performed with a large number of national and international artists including Kenny Werner, Jim Black, Ari Hoenig, Gilad Hekselman, Charlie Haden, Wycliffe Gordon, Sheila Jordan, Chris Cheek, George Garzone, Will Vinson, James Morrison, Terrell Stafford and Greg Osby. Since his relocation to New York in 2010 Peter Kronreif has become a sought-after drummer in the scene and is on an increasingly busy schedule playing and recording with some of the city’s most exciting emerging artists including the Le Boeuf Brothers, Jaleel Shaw, John Ellis, Ricky Rodriguez and HipHop artists like The Real Life Show, The Upstagers and Ray Angry. While still a student in his native, Austria, he was already performing with some of the European jazz greats including Harry Sokal, Martin Reiter, Matthieu Michel and Alegre Correa. Concert tours led him to over 20 different countries around the world. In 2010 he was awarded the Hans-Koller-Award as “Sideman of the Year“, the "Annual Scholarship for Music“ of the city of Salzburg and a studying grant from the Austrian Ministry of Arts & Culture.
