Using Microfiber Mops in Hospitals.
What is microfiber?
Eliminate germs.
Microfiber is densely constructed
polyester and polyamide (nylon) fibers
about 1/16 the thickness of a human
hair. It holds six times its weight in
water, making it more absorbent than
conventional cleaning products. Its
positively charged fibers attract and
hold dust like a magnet and penetrate
the microscopic pores of most surface
materials. These characteristics make
microfiber ideal for healthcare facility
cleaning and infection control efforts.2
Cleaning multiple surfaces with the
same mops or wipers over time can
spread pathogenic microorganisms.
And processing contaminated cleaning
products in-house is inefficient, time
consuming, and costly. UniFirst helps
remove dirt- and bacteria-laden cleaning
products from your facility. Our
microfiber systems are also proven to
minimize cross-contamination during
janitorial tasks.

The smart choice for healthcare.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that up to
1
/3 of the infections acquired by two million hospital patients treated each year
are preventable. According to the American Journal of Infection Control, microfiber
demonstrates “superior microbial removal” compared to conventional products.
When used properly, our microfiber products help control infection, boost worker
productivity, and lower your costs.

Achieve a healthier environment, increase
worker productivity, and reduce overall costs
with a UniFirst microfiber service program.
A recent report on cost data for hospital-acquired infections at 165 general acute care
hospitals in Pennsylvania revealed that, on average, hospital acquired infections
increased charges by $67,907 per case and hospitals were only reimbursed for
27% of those charges.6 UniFirst microfiber service programs help eliminate harmful
bacteria and viruses from patient, staff, common areas, and other surfaces in your
facility. Our full service program pays for itself through savings in chemicals,
water usage, and employee productivity alone. Your UniFirst Microfiber Cleaning
