Prime Factorization
Prime Number: A prime number is a whole number, greater than 1 that can be evenly
divided by 1 and itself.
Examples of prime numbers:
2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13,...
Factors: The factors of a number are numbers that when you multiply them together you
get the original number.
Example:
Two factors of 8 are 2 and 4. 2 x 4 = 8
Two factors of 10 are 2 and 5. 2 x 5 = 10
Three factors of 30 are 2, 5, and 3. 2 x 5 x 3 = 30
Prime Factorization: Is when you find all the factors of a number that are prime.
Example: What is the prime factorization of 12.

Discussion: Prime numbers may at first appear to be something that has no value, but in
prime factorization, this will help you get the Greatest Common Factor (GCF), the Least
Common Multiple (LCM), and other things in math.
