Three Ways to Simplify Fractions(Lowest
Terms):
1. Divide both numerator or denominator by
the GCF(listing factors way)
2. Divide both numerator or denominator until
you can't divide anymore
3. Make factor trees(prime factorization) to
find the GCF
What is the greatest
common factor?
The greatest common factor of two numbers is the largest
factor shared by both. You determine the GCF by calculating
all the factors of both numbers and finding the largest one
that is a factor of both.
Example: What is the GCF of 44 and 66?
Factors of 44: 1, 2, 4, 11, 22, 44
Factors of 66: 1, 2, 3, 11, 22, 33, 66
The greatest common factor of 44 and 66 is 22.

1. Find the prime factorization for numbers involved.
