Algebra 2 Test Review
1. Given the two equations below, find the value of x.
24 = 4 + y
x+2=y+9
2. Evaluate when x = 5 and y = - 4.
xy + 2y + x
3. Expand and simplify the following:
−3(2x − 4) + 8x
4. Solve the equation.
4(x − 9) = 3(x + 8) − x
5. Xavier and Yogi each have money in their pockets. If Xavier (x) was given $5
more and Yogi (y) had $2 less, they would have the same amount. Write an
equation with x and y to represent this.
Who has more money? How much more? Can you show this algebraically?
6. Fred and Ned ate a total of 42 pieces of cheesecake this month. Fred ate 3
more than Ned. Write an equation and solve to determine the amount each person
ate. (Hint: Let the amount Ned ate be n.)
7. The length of a rectangle is triple the width. If the perimeter is 72 m, what is the
area? Write an equation and solve. (Hint: Let the width be w.)
8. Belle has 3 times as many bells as Nell. Elle has twice as many bells as Nell. If
the three girls have 42 bells altogether, how many does each girl have? Write an
equation to solve. (Hint: Let the amount Nell has be n.)
9. The angles 25°, x°, and ( x + 5 ) ° are complementary angles. Find the value of x
and the size of each angle. Write an equation to solve.
10. Raymond just finished jumping at Super Bounce Trampoline Centre. The total
cost of his session was $43.25. He had to pay a $7 entrance fee and $1.25 for
every minute he was on the trampoline. Write an equation to determine the number
of minutes (m) that Raymond was on the trampoline.
