It is his ambition to find employment as Resident Director on a commercial musical, and to continue connecting with makers of original cabaret, theatre, and new music theatre. In March, Dirk was invited by Neil Gooding and the team at the Hayes Theatre to be present for the development and rehearsals of The Detective’s Handbook, under the direction of Jonathan Biggins. Dirk is inspired by Australia’s untold queer stories, which challenge the stigmas of difference surrounding gender, sexual preference, disability and disease, and is committed to finding innovative ways to share them with audiences. Jane was dramaturg on Glyn Robert’s Triangle (2012; nominated for six Green Room Awards) directed by Tanya Dickson for the National Play Festival, Malthouse Theatre and MKA: Theatre of New Writing. While studying a Bachelor of Arts (Fashion) at RMIT, she met creative director and auteur Lynne Ellis. Hayley’s short plays have received awards and high audience praise at various Short and Sweet festivals, while her one-act plays have entertained audiences throughout Victoria. Last year her play Pretence received many awards at various festivals, and in 2014 her short play It’s On Me was awarded Best Short Play at the Kyneton One-Act Play festival, adjudicated by John Flaus. In 2014, Hayley was commissioned by Peridot Theatre Company to write Warriors, a youth production. Warriors is currently represented by YouthPlays, a Los Angeles based publishing company, and has since been produced by two different high schools in the United States. Hayley has worked with Baggage Productions on their annual Mad Women Monologues seasons. As a founding member of What Just Happened Productions, Callum co-produced six productions between 2007 and 2011. In 2012 he studied at the Makeup Effects Group (MEG). Callum has a Bachelor of Arts (Theatre and History) from Monash University where he presented a research paper at the 2015 International Conference for Undergraduate Research (ICUR). As an associate artist of Nuworks Theatre, Callum was a part of their 2014 performance tour of the United Kingdom. Callum began directing in 2014 and has since pursued a career as a director and dramaturg. Her work explores the individual in deeply personal situations of disappointment, suffering, frustration, and struggle, in moments where the familiar motions of the everyday darken and veer toward the tragic, whilst maintaining its ritualistic performance. Ghajar seeks to delve into the realms of who or what governs and manipulates this ‘straying’, in an attempt to open a space for discussion in the public sphere. He trained as an actor at UMass Amherst and completed his Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University in 2006. Jonathan’s theatre work previously focused on reimagining classic texts for the stage. From 2007 to 2014 he lived between San Diego and Melbourne, training as a secondary teacher. While completing Honours at Deakin University in 2015, he wrote and directed a postmodern adaptation of Euripides’s The Women of Troy. Jonathan’s current research fuses traditions of meditation practice with contemporary theatre making processes. His work documents the variable shifts in physical and emotional states through rehearsal and performance, attempting to create a framework to strategically enhance future exploration. After graduation, he went to work in London for Sonia Friedman Productions (SFP), Sadler’s Wells and Digital Theatre. While at SFP, he worked on development workshops for Bend It Like Beckham The Musical, Shakespeare in Love (co-production with Disney Theatrical) and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Upon returning to Melbourne, he decided to pursue dramaturgy and has specialised primarily in works of music theatre.
