Human Traits
You will see many of the following
traits in your project, and many of
you notice them in your family,
friends and others as well.
Do you know which traits are
dominant, recessive or blend
together?
Face shapes
Round (RR)
Square (rr)
* Oval faces are a hybrid trait (Rr)
Which of these
faces do you
think are round,
oval or square?
Being round is a little different in the animal world
Widow’s peak
Cleft chin
Which chin type is
dominant?
Can you tell which 2 men are related?
How did you decide?
What type of earlobe do you have?
•
The gene for free hanging
earlobes is dominant, and the
gene for attached earlobes is
recessive.
•
That means that you have free
hanging earlobes if you inherited
the gene for it from at least one of
your parents meaning that your
genotype is “EE” or “Ee”
•
However, you have attached
earlobes if you inherited genes
from both parents that give
instructions for attached lobes
(“ee”).

Eyelashes supreme (not natural)
Eye Color
• Eye color is
actually
controlled by a
number of
genes, that is
why there are so
many variations.
Eye Color Explained
Dimples
•
Dimples are visible indentations
of the skin, caused by underlying
flesh, which form on some
people's cheeks when they smile.
Dimples are genetically inherited
and are a dominant trait. Having
no dimples is a recessive trait.
•
Dimples on each cheek are a
relatively common occurrence for
people with dimples. A rarer form
is the single dimple, which occurs
on one side of the face only.
•
Dimples often are more
noticeable in children than adults.
1, 2,3,4,5 …6?
Polydactyl is when a limb
has more than five digits.
It can happen in humans,
and is very common in
domestic cats.
Which traits do you have?
• Take a look at the list, which ones do you
have? Are they dominant or recessive?
• What are the chances you could pass on
this trait to your offspring?
• Could you do a Punnett square for one of
these traits and describe the results?
