WHAT IS MEDICAL MICROPIGMENTATION? Implanting of color (pigment) under the skin with a needle or needles by use of an electrical machine or a manual device to recreate or re-claim the definition to eyebrows, eyes, lips, scars and areola complex (colored portion of the breast). Medications to be prescribed or discontinued are reviewed. Existing physical conditions are discussed. Details of the procedure and expectations are discussed. Skin test is administered. Post instructions are given to patient. OBJECTIVE: PATIENT SAFETY • Minimum Standards for education and training are required to assure complete patient safety and satisfaction. PREPARATION: DAY OF THE PROCEDURE • Before and after photographs are taken. • Patient is properly draped and hair secured. • The area to be worked is aseptically prepared. CREATING SHAPE •Determining shape, placement, and color • Final decisions rest upon the patient. INSTRUMENTS NEEDED Various machines can be used. The traditional tattoo machine and the pen machine are examples of equipment. These machines average 400 needle punctures per minute. TRADITIONAL TATTOO MACHINE • • • • • WHAT IS IT? HOW DOES IT WORK? WHY USE THIS MACHINE? ADVANTAGES OF THE COIL DISADVANTAGES OF THE COIL NEEDLES Needle groups vary from one needle to groups of fourteen. Needle selection is determined by skin texture, condition, age of skin, and area of implantation. STERILIZATION Metal and plastic tubes that house the needle, along with needles are autoclaved (sterilized) before use. SELECTION OF ANESTHESIA Types of anesthesia • Topical creams, gels and liquids • Local injections • Nerve blocks • I.V. sedation • Oral sedation. FULL LIP COLOR After effective anesthesia has been administered the outline drawn on and approved by the patient is now implanted with the selected color. The exactness of the implantation is imperative for the perfect lip line. APPLYING COLOR TO THE LIP • Applying color to remaining skin tissue is the next step. • The full lip color takes 1 - 1 1/2 hours. • Six weeks later the second application of color is applied. Color adjustments are also addressed at this visit. FINISHED FULL LIP COLOR • After the entire lip is saturated with pigment (color), the excess color is cleaned from the skin. • Photographs are taken and placed in the patient’s file along with documentation of the procedure. • Post procedure care instructions are reviewed with the EYELINER EYELINER • • • • • prep drawing shape anesthesia implantation of color eyelids are thin and vascular allowing little margin for error. • length of procedure 1-1 1/2 hours • return visit in 6 weeks to fill in any missing areas. The process is the same for eyeliner, lips and brows. HAZARDOUS MEDICAL WASTE • Used needles and plastic tubes are properly disposed of after one use. • Only licensed companies are allowed to pick up and dispose of hazardous medical waste.
