Bad Neighbours 2
The Boss
With a second baby on the way,
Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly
Radner (Rose Byrne) are about to
take the final step into adulthood –
moving to the burbs! But just as it
seems safe to sell their place, they
find that their new neighbours are
a sorority that’s up for parties even
more epic than Teddy (Zac Efron)
and his brothers ever imagined.
Can Teddy infiltrate and neutralise
Kappa Nu for Mac and Kelly so
that they can sell up?
High-flying CEO Michelle Darnell
(Melissa McCarthy) is used
to getting her own way, until
she’s busted for insider trading
and sent to prison. Broke and
homeless upon release, Darnell
turns to former assistant Claire
(Kristen Bell) to help her rebrand
as America’s latest sweetheart.
But having screwed over so
many people on her way up, the
enemies that she made aren’t
exactly prepared to forgive and
forget.
The Huntsman:
Winter’s War
Evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize
Theron) betrays her younger sister
Freya (Emily Blunt) by freezing
her heart to love. Retreating to
an ice palace deep in the north,
Freya raises an army of Huntsmen
as her protectors. As a war for
domination escalates, Freya’s
most elite Huntsman, Eric (Chris
Hemsworth), helps Freya fight to
vanquish her sister before her
wickedness rules for all eternity.

Suffragette
Floundering in the polls, Bolivian
presidential hopeful Pedro Costillo
enlists an American political
consultancy. Raising his popularity is
a huge ask, and soon the big gun is
called in – political spin doctor Jane
Bodine (Sandra Bullock). Already
facing a massive challenge, Jane
learns that she’s also up against her
chauvinistic nemesis, Pat Candy (Billy
Bob Thornton), who’s representing
the presidential forerunner...
Based on a truly horrible reality –
the systemic sexual molestation of
children within the Boston Catholic
Church, and the blind eyes turned
by the Boston Archdiocese Spotlight tells of a dogged team
of journalists, The Boston Globe’s
‘Spotlight’ team, who investigated
the situation. Their research soon
uncovered much more than they
expected in the lead-up to their
story going public...
The suffragette movement
emerged in early 1900s England,
determined to secure voting rights
for women. Laundress Maud
Watts (Carey Mulligan) is seduced
by the crusade, leading to being
ostracised not only by neighbours,
but also her husband. When he
bars Maud from seeing their son,
she becomes even more radical.
All she – and her comrades - want
is equality in the eyes of the law...

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
The highly-anticipated clash between the
world’s two most legendary superheroes
is finally here, and it certainly doesn’t
disappoint, offering an explosive
spectacle of super-fisticuffs along with
the groundwork for what will likely be a
slew of DC hero sequels. It sees the world
reeling from Superman’s destructive
clash with General Zod, and the people of
Metropolis and Gotham City are unsure
how to deal with the unfamiliar, alien hero
who claims to stand for truth and justice.
After witnessing firsthand the destruction
wrought by Superman’s battles, Bruce
Wayne is wary of humanity’s newfound
alien protector, who seems to operate
with total freedom from the law and who is
apparently ignorant of the chaos caused
by his last battle. As Batman, he’s an
aged and callous protector, having tried
fruitlessly for years to rid Gotham City of
its criminal underworld. But what he has
successfully saved his home city from is
total destruction, something which might
accidentally – or intentionally - come at the
hands of Superman. Meanwhile, billionaire
Lex Luthor has hatched a plan of his own to
rid the world of Superman for good, and he
wants to see it through to the end – with or
without Batman’s help... Scott

GODS OF EGYPT
Directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City) and
set within the rich but criminally underused
realm of Egyptian mythology, Gods of
Egypt takes place in an alternate reality
depiction of Egypt where gods walk
amongst men. These deities possess the
ability to transform into the more traditional
depictions shown in hieroglyphics, but
generally prefer to potter about in humanoid
form, albeit much taller than the average
human and with golden blood. Mortal thief
Bek (Brenton Thwaites, Maleficent) regards
these gods with distaste and prefers to
focus his attentions on his young love Zaya.
But Bek finds himself inadvertently drawn
into the conflict between two factions of
higher beings after Set, the God of the
Desert (Gerard Butler, 300) stages a coup
and slays his brother Osiris. Enslaved and
forced to work on a monument for Ra,
Bek teams up with the fallen champion
Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, TV’s Game
of Thrones) after Zaya’s forced marriage
to and subsequent death at the hands
of Set’s chief architect. The pair embark
upon a fantastical journey to reclaim both
Bek’s lost love from the afterlife and his
homeland from the oppressive clutches of
Set... A dark fantasy with a unique thematic
concept, Gods of Egypt is manna for fans of
truly epic cinema. Sean

13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI
Based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s hit novel and
real events, this American biographical
war film adaptation earns its stripes with
direction from none other than action giant
Michael Bay. The story follows six members
of a private security team who try to save
the life of an American ambassador in
Benghazi, Libya after waves of terrorist
attacks on September 11, 2012 – the
eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks
on US soil. We see the arrival of Jack Da
Silva (John Krasinski, TV’s The Office),
who flies in to Benghazi to join a Global
Response Staff team that’s made up of
former military special ops who protect a
CIA outpost called “The Annex”. Da Silva is
picked up by his close friend Tyrone “Rone”
Woods (James Badge Dale, World War Z)
and introduced to the rest of the team. But
he doesn’t have time to settle in, as a few
days later the US embassy is attacked by
a group of Islamic radicals. As a result,
American ambassador Christopher Stevens
(Matt Letscher, Gods and Generals) and two
diplomatic security agents are locked in a
safe room awaiting rescue. The GRS team
desperately want to help them out, but the
commander strongly refuses. Disobeying
the order, the GRS team leaves The Annex
and heads to the seized embassy... Emilia

on the bandwagon you’re missing out
on a whole lot of fun! Several years after
saying “I do”, Toula (Nia Vardalos, Connie

well as experiencing marital problems, their
teenage daughter Paris is already beginning
to feel pressure from her grandfather, Gus,
to find a Greek boyfriend, get married, and
have sons. Then, amongst the usual family
chaos, Gus discovers that his marriage
certificate to Maria was never signed, and
therefore they’re not legally married. So
what does this mean? Another mammoth,
over the top, Greek wedding of course!
Meanwhile, Toula is working on forging
a closer relationship with Paris as she
contemplates her college options, some
of which are not so close to home – much
to Toula’s dismay... There’s never a dull
moment in this big Greek family who remind
us of the importance of love and tradition,
but also that change can sometimes be a
good thing. It’s a true delight to see all of
the beloved characters from the original

Hard to Kill

It’s hardly an overstatement to say that
technology continually advances in leaps
and bounds. Not surprisingly, much of
the tech that we use every day owes its
existence to being developed for military use.
Drones are no exception – small unmanned
aircraft which can be controlled from the
other side of the world to spy, or even deploy
weaponry. In Eye in the Sky, British Colonel
Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren, RED) has
tracked a group of wanted terrorists to a
house in Kenya. At first she orders capture
of the extremists, but upon receiving
intelligence that they’re preparing for an
imminent suicide bombing she wants to hit
them with a drone-borne missile strike. There
are, however, extenuating circumstances.
This sets off a chain of permission seeking
from superiors that goes up, and up,
and up. Ah, politics... Just as technology
evolves, so does the war movie. Eye in the
Sky is an example of the genre, but without
the typical all-guns-blazing combat. While
it’s a genuine, must-see thrill ride, it also
poses questions of morality that will very
likely keep you pondering for days. Amy

THE TRUST
Many people get bored with their jobs
and look for an out. But when you’re a
Las Vegas cop, and the way out involves
breaking the very laws that you swore to
uphold, it’s moral quandary time. Not that
Lieutenant Jim Stone (Nic Cage, Pay the
Ghost) cares about the latter. During the
course of doing his job, he comes across
a bail receipt that’s decidedly dodgy. After
opting to let a co-worker, Sergeant David
Waters (Elijah Wood – yes, Frodo!), in on
his discovery, Jim takes some time off to
do some detective work (irony noted). He
discovers a drug dealer with a very large
vault secreted inside an industrial freezer,
and so begins a heist plot that gradually
unravels from the very get-go... Starting out
light then getting darker by the minute, while
it’s essentially a slick thriller, The Trust could
also easily be labelled a black comedy
thanks to the presence of Mr Nicolas Cage,
who is wonderfully, mesmerizingly bizarre
here. Plus he’s sporting an absolutely killer

THE FINEST HOURS
Based on an incredible true story of danger,
determination and horrible weather, this
gripping thriller will satisfy your cravings
for that long-lost genre of movies in which
boats come to be caught in the middle of
raging storms. This particular example tells
the story of real life hero Bernard “Bernie”
Webber (Chris Pine, Jack Ryan: Shadow
Recruit), a crewman on a US Coast Guard
station in Cape Cod who finds himself
tasked with the rescue of the crew of the
SS Pendleton, an oil tanker which has
suffered irreparable damage due to a
fiercely raging storm. However, with most
of the Coast Guard’s resources already
spent on rescuing a different ship in a
similar situation, Bernie is forced to take
only a small crew on a tiny motor lifeboat,
the capacity of which is well under what’s
necessary to save the entire crew of the
Pendleton... What follows is a story of
incredible human ingenuity and bravery,
with excellent dramatic performances from
all concerned. Scott

While it may be director Simon Stone’s debut

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE
Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, The
Thing) is having a crap day. She’s left her
boyfriend, and is driving through Louisiana
when, after being distracted by her phone,
she has a horrific car accident and is rendered
unconscious. Sadly, things are about to get
crappier... Michelle awakes in a cell of some
sort, chained to the wall. She meets Howard
(John Goodman, Red State), who appears
to be a doomsday prepper. He tells Michelle
that there’s been a major attack upon the
world outside, that it’s now uninhabitable
THE WITCH
This debut from director and writer Robert
Eggers cost a paltry $1 million to make – a
budget that wouldn’t cover the catering on
a typical Hollywood flick. It’s since made
an astonishing $33 million in ticket sales
worldwide, based almost entirely on word
of mouth. In the 17th century in puritanical
New England, a religious family leaves
their village and sets up a farm next to a
huge, dark forest where, as it turns out, a
and if not for him rescuing her and bringing
her to his bunker then she’d be dead. Then
there’s this guy Emmett (John Gallagher Jr,
Jonah Hex), what’s his story? Can this trio be
happy underground? With Howard’s passiveaggressive behaviour it isn’t likely. What are
his intentions? Is he telling the truth about
outside? Can Michelle come up with a way to
find out? Differing wildly in style to Cloverfield,
10 Cloverfield Lane owes more to Hitchcock’s
tense thrillers than the found footage genre,
and at times it’s breathtakingly terrifying. Amy
mysterious baby-stealing witch resides.
When the family’s baby son disappears
– presumed taken by the witch - events
start to unravel in the most eerie of ways...
An incredibly stylish and quietly terrifying
movie that never once looks like it was
made on a limited budget, The Witch is
horror done right – quiet, unsettling and
menacing. Naturally we recommend that
you watch it with the lights out! Anthony

FIFTY SHADES OF BLACK
The iconic Fifty Shades of Grey gets a sharp

playing the Christian Grey type of this
piece. Charming sex-crazed businessman
Christian Black falls for a young woman
named Hannah (Kali Hawk, Bridesmaids). As
soon as she’s suckered into doing all sorts
of wacky things with Black in the bedroom,
the innocent Hannah starts learning of her
beau’s even more disturbing (but hilarious)

Anchorman’s Ed Harken) and a scenestealing Jane Seymour are memorable as

them to spur conversation at charity events.

HEAVENLY SWORD
Based on the sword-slinging videogame,
this hack-and-slash action flick offers the

crazy duelling, however, the movie spins
a dramatic tale of revenge centred upon
the fiery Nariko, a member of an ancient
clan sworn to protect a legendary sword
of incredible energy against power-hungry
outsiders. Although once considered a
failure unfit to protect or wield the blade,
Nariko is forced to take up the dangerous
weapon herself in order to wreak revenge
against a brutal invading king who has
wrought destruction in an effort to claim the
sword for his own selfish purposes... Fans
of both the game and fast-paced action
flicks will find much to love here. Scott
ROBOT OVERLORDS
It isn’t every day that you run across a science

of adventure and fun that we get to see in

So, if you’ve been looking for that elusive
popcorn futuristic robot invasion movie, this
is it! Robot Overlords is set in a bleak future
where humans are confined to their homes by
giant robotic sentries, which coldly eliminate
anyone who dares to venture outside. But a
bunch of clever kids work out how to disable
the implants that control them, and realise
that they might actually be able to free the
entire human race from robotic rule... Robot

THE COMPLETE FOURTH SEASON
With its intricate relationships and
psychological interplay, we’re pretty sure
that if Shakespeare were alive today then
the riveting US political drama House of
Cards would be his top TV pick. Well, unless
he was suing them for ripping off his ideas!
From regular Richard III-like breaks of “the
fourth wall” when Kevin Spacey’s diabolical
President Frank Underwood talks directly
to camera to the Lady Macbeth-like power
hunger of his wife, Claire (Robin Wright, a
million miles from Buttercup in The Princess
Bride), the series owes much to the Bard.
The 13 episodes of this season see the
Underwoods hitting the campaign trail in hopes
of presidential re-election, however Claire
may not necessarily be behind her husband
100 percent. Then there’s the competition
from Republican nominee Will Conway,
who’s young, is a father and has his head
around social media... Yes, this fourth season
of House of Cards goes beyond party politics
into generational ones, and they’re just as nasty
– and fiendishly fascinating - as ever. Amy
BOSCH: SEASON TWO
Imagine a cop show where the lead plays
things strictly by the book. No rule bending,
no colouring outside the lines, just 100
percent aboveboard. While it’s what we
desire from real life detectives, it’s not what
we want from fictional ones, and thankfully
author Michael Connelly’s LAPD homicide
detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver, Argo)
is one for, erm, “flexibility”. Not that there
aren’t repercussions for his actions, as this
season sees him back on the job after a
six month suspension. The discovery of a
* See back for conditions
body in a car boot seems relatively routine
initially, but it may just be the beginning
of an incredibly challenging case that will
require all of Bosch’s smarts to solve...
Superbly gritty, if you’re a fan of such cop
shows as Luther and The Wire (whose Eric
Overmyer is involved here) then take a walk
on the law’s wild side. Amy
