Approximately 9 mln sq.metres. More than 2.5 million people, 2% of the country’s population , 40% of the population of the entire Arctic. The Russian Arctic, occupies 30% of the country’s territory, generates up to 12% of the GDP, around 30 % of all exports 85% of the production of natural gas in Russia and 20% of its global production takes place in the Yamalo‐Nenets Autonomous Region. The Yamalo‐Nenets Autonomous Region has 234 hydrocarbon deposits, 66 under commercial development. The largest gas condensate field in the Yamal Peninsula, Bovanekovo. Russia is the first and the only country to use drifting polar stations in order to study the Arctic.
