Short Biography (270 words - 20 lines)
alinGHERMAN
is born in 1981 in Transylvania (Romania). At 11 he moved to Belgium and began to play music and
compose as autodidact. He followed composition lessons at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles with
Daniel CAPELLETTI and at the Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie (Poland) with Zbigniew BARGIELSKI,
Marek CHOLONIEWSKI. He received a scholarship from the Swiss Confederation to study the instrumental
theatre with Georges APERGHIS, Xavier DAYER, Daniel OTT, Eric GAUDIBERT and Pierre SUBLET at the
Hochschule der Künste Bern. He also completed the Master in Composition with a minor in Film music
program at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste with Domenico FERRARI. He participated at the
masterclasses in Weimar, Cesky Krumlov, Breaza as well as Acanthes (Metz-France), Tactus (BruxellesMons), SYPEmeda (Minsk-Belarus), Operomanija (Lithuania) and multimedia experimental workshops "xmed-k" of Nadine/FoAM (Brussels). He composed the soundtrack of the silent movie “Ein Werktag” which
was invited for screening and LIVE performance at the Winterthur Short Film Festival 2009. His operatic
action “A Sky of Light” (based on the poem Lucifer by M. Eminescu) was included in a collective chamber
opera about Lucifer, premiered by AUT in Aarhus (Denmark) in 2014. Commissions included works for the
Tonhalle Zürich, Concours de Genève, Pro Helvetia, European Contemporary Orchestra and Ensemble
Musiques Nouvelles. He directed and produced several music videos and broadcasts over his own
channel on Youtube.com
Winner of the YCP Competition of the Beijing Modern Music Festival 2011 and Icon Arts Romania 2005,
Honourable acknowledgement of the Universität Oldenpburg. Selected composer for the ISCM
Musicarama 2015 in Hong Kong and the Romanian Pavilion at the EXPO 2015 Milano.
