Qin Shihuangdi Facebook Project
Introduction: You are going to use Fakebook or Google Docs to make a simulated Facebook page for
Qin Shihuangdi, one of China's greatest emperors. The simulated Facebook page needs to include all
relevant information necessary to fully explain the achievements and historical significance of Qin
Shihuangdi. If you wish, you may use Google Docs, but it will likely be harder to create a realistic-looking
Facebook page.
Requirements:
1. This is a project grade and is mainly a homework assignment. I may allow you to work on the project
in class on Friday November 2nd. Any class day spent working on this project will count towards your
overall project grade (10 percent per day).
2. Your simulated Facebook page must include the basic information that you would include in any
biography. This includes birthday, reign dates (start and end of rule), major achievements, significance in
Chinese and world history.
3. Facebook friends should include important figures who were in Qin Shinuangdi's life. These are
people who lived at around the same time as he did. Though you must include real figures as friends,
you may also include imaginary figures. Imaginary figures should, through their comments, teach us
about Qin Shihuangdi's rule. For example, you could have an imaginary worker comment about working
on the Great Wall of China.
4. Your wall should include at least 10 posts by Qin Shihuangdi, 5 friends, and 10 comments. You also
must include images for all people on the Fakebook page.
a. Include dates for events in posts and comments!
5. Check your grammar and spelling. They count.
6. When you are finished, make sure you share your Fakebook link with me.

Major Achievements of Qin Shihuangdi (see class notes posted on mrxafa.wikispaces.com and links at
the bottom of this document to find more detailed information than is listed below):
a. United much of China under Qin rule by conquering six kingdoms. This set the precedent for a
large Chinese state ruled by a powerful government. The name China comes from the Qin Dynasty
(pronounced "chin").

b. Established a very powerful government that ruled according to the ancient Chinese
philosophy called legalism. According to this philosophy, harsh punishments were necessary to maintain
order and stability in society. Research legalism using the link below.

c. Established a single writing system for his empire allowing people who spoke different
languages to communicate.
d. Created standard weights and measures for his empire making commerce, construction, and
government administration easier.
e. Ordered the construction of the Great Wall of China using several preexisting walls. This wall
was designed to protect China from northern invaders.
f. Built the famous tomb of terra cotta soldiers in Xian. While alive he sought a magic elixir to
give him eternal life. He never found it.
*Remember that your simulate Facebook page must provide details about each of these
achievements, as well as Qin Shihuangdi's place in Chinese and world history.
