Status Report 2
Team Members: Edwin Billips, Cian Branco, An Kim, Langston
Lewis, Mackenzie Webb, Alexander Streit, David Warner,
Benjiman Cawrse
Overview
• Team is transitioning towards experimental testing and lab
work
• There has been steady progress albeit slower then first
expected
• We expect to perform experimental tests for the O-Pod
deployment device and aerodynamic brake
• We also expect to have purchased a large majority of the
electronics determined necessary for the mission of our flight
test article in interface with RockSat-X.
Testing Platform
• Team is still pursuing a sounding rocket test flight at Wallops
Flight Facility through the RockSat-X program which is still
considered the best option for the successful completion of
this project
• 124,000 ft. High Altitude Balloon testing platform ruled out
because it does not provide enough of the necessary
conditions of space to adequately validate the performance of
our aerodynamic brake.

It is determined at 90 km to be the ideal
altitude to release the membrane and
inlfate the CubeSat.

Quick Release Mechanism
●
Solenoid Option
●
●
●
2 linear solenoids hold spring plate, retract by
signal
“cheap & simple”, not ruled out yet.
Vectran Line Option
●
●
●
Quote on Vectran: ~$1 to $3 per foot (in
budget)
High strength, cuts with heat → very useful
material
