THIS IS TRULY AN EXCELLENT WAY TO WORSHIP HIM; Do not follow the example the ungodly set for you; INSTEAD, BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MINDS. Then you will be able to discern and know WHAT GOD’S GOOD, PLEASING, AND PERFECT WILL IS FOR YOU. **THE OPENING HYMN #90 American English Version ‘JOYFUL, JOYFUL WE ADORE YOU’ [ All who are able please stand ] Joyful, joyful, we adore You, (1) God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before You, Open to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day! All Your works (2) with joy surround You, Earth and heaven reflect Your rays, Stars and angels sing around You, Center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain Flowery meadow, flashing sea, Singing bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in You. You are giving and forgiving, (3) Ever blessing, ever blessed, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! You our Father, Christ our Brother All who live in love are Yours; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to Your joy divine. Mortals, join the happy chorus, Which the morning stars began; Father love is reigning o’er us, God’s great love binds one to all. Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife, Joyful music leads us Sonward In the triumph song of life. (4) SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Psalm 40:1-2 I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the desolate pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on the solid rock and gave me a firm place to stand. (1a) GRACE GREATER THAN OUR SINS Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt! Over on Calvary’s mount outpoured, There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled. (1b) Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within; Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin. (2a) Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold, Threaten the soul with infinite loss; Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold, Points to the refuge, the mighty cross. (2b) Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within; Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin. (3a) Dark is the stain that we cannot hide. What can avail to wash it away? Look! There is flowing a crimson tide, Brighter than snow you may be today. (3b) Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within; Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin. (4a) Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, Freely bestowed on all who believe! You that are longing to see His face, Will you this moment His grace receive? (4b) Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within; Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin. THE HOLY SCRIPTURE Philippians 3:10-4:1 Read by Roxanne VanDyke I want to know Christ, and the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that, too, God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. BUT OUR CITIZENSHIP IS IN HEAVEN. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends! THE SONG OF PREPARATION THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE (1) This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. (2) Won’t let Satan blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine, Won’t let Satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. (3) Hide it under a bushel, NO! I’m gonna to let it shine, Hide it under a bushel, NO! I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. (4) Let it shine ‘til Jesus comes, I'm gonna let it shine, Let it shine ‘til Jesus comes, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
