machine to be considered for the
Safety Documentation shall
include:
• The machine area and
components,
• The injection beam line and
ejection lines,
• The H- source,
• The equipment and

ELENA Safety File
• What is a Safety File?
It addresses both Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Facility
Integrity;
It is a structured, organised, and regularly updated safety
documentation;
It demonstrates accurate knowledge of safety requirements
during the entire life cycle of installations: design, construction,
operation and dismantling;
It is a safety management tool, and aims to be proactive in terms
of safety aspects of project management.

ELENA Safety File
• A Safety File:
Describe and explain the installations: working principle,
operation modes, including special ones, maintenance. References
to technical documentation are strongly recommended;
 A first draft of the Descriptive Part is available on the EDMS 1313189
Demonstrate the reliability of the systems and the mitigation of
potential risks for people at work;
List and document operational procedures for activities and
processes involved during the operational phase of the facility: f.
ex. operation, maintenance;
Collect all the relevant safety documentation about the
equipment/installation of the facility: records, lessons learned and
monitoring (REM) which is the dynamic part of the Safety File.

• The Safety File expected content :
The Safety File is written by the departments, for the departments,
covering design, installation, operation, maintenance, upgrades and finally – dismantling of the machine;
The Radiation Protection aspects will be covered by a contribution
written by the DGS/RP experts and provided to the project leader/
facility manager;
The HSE requirements will be presented in a Safety Launch
Agreement and provided to be integrated in the safety documentation.
• The Edition of the Safety File is organised by the project
leader/ facility manager:
Contributors are experts and will be appointed to provide written
contributions;
The Editor compiles the contributions and edit the documentation.
