A program is an entity consisting of multiple and interrelated projects, all contributing to the program’s common goal. 2. A program has a start and an end, predefined goal, and specific reserved budget for its execution. 3. Program’s goal is related often to large-scale or complex change, which often implies that the goal can only be defined as a vision at the outset, and all projects required for the goal achievement cannot necessarily be defined yet at the outset; therefore, the program’s objectives and required projects are often specified in more detail continuously during the execution, as the program unfolds. Project Business research group © PB research group 2008 http://pb.hut.fi/ Large project definition ‘‘Large project is a significant undertaking characterized by a) multiple organizations seeking success with different objectives, b) changing priorities of project objectives, and c) the project being subject to the impacts of a wider socio-political environment.’’ (adapted from several sources: Morris & Hough 1987, Williams 2002, Grün 2004) Project Business research group © PB research group 2008 http://pb.hut.fi/ Ohjelmia ja/tai suuria projekteja • UPM-Kymmenen sellutehtaan rakentaminen Venäjälle • Neste Oilin biodiesel –laitoksen rakentaminen Singaporeen • Suuri tuotekehitys- tai organisaation muutosprojekti – esim.
