Self quiz on Organelles
• Name all the organelles
• Name all the organelles
– Nucleus
– Ribosomes
– Endoplasmic reticulum (rough and smooth)
– Golgi Complex
– Mitochondrion
– Lysosome
– Centriole
• To make sure you understand the function ask
yourself what would happen to the cell if each
one of the organelles disappeared from a cell
– Nucleus
– Ribosomes
– Endoplasmic reticulum (rough and smooth)
– Golgi Complex
– Mitochondrion
– Lysosome
– Centriole
• Nucleus
– If there were no nucleus, DNA would be all over
the cell and unprotected, it would be very hard to
control gene expression
• Ribosomes
– Without ribosomes the cell would not be able to
make any protein
• Rough endoplasmic reticulum
– Without the rough ER, cells would be unable to
export proteins.
• Sooth endoplasmic reticulum
– Without the smooth ER, cells would not be able to
make lipids or steroids
• Golgi complex
– Without the Golgi complex, cells would have a
hard time sorting the molecules it needs to
export. Also, there would be no lysosomes
• Mitochondrion
– Without the mitochondrion, the cell would not
have enough ATP to function
• Lysosome
– Without lysosomes, the cell would be filled with
waste and debris, and would be unable to get rid
of its waste
• Centrioles
– Without centrioles it would be difficult for the cell
to complete mitosis or meiosis due to the absence
of the mitotic spindle. There would also be
problems with cytokinesis
