Personal Giftedness:
Placed In The Body
1 Corinthians 12:12-27
What part of the body are you?
•Every part is vital.
•Are you a hand?
Ear? Eye? Foot?
•Each person in the
body is vital,
indispensible and
divinely placed in the
church.
The Complex Nature of the Church
•1 Corinthians
12:12-- “Just as
a body, though
one, has many
parts, but all its
many parts form
one body, so it
is with Christ.”
The One Body United in One Spirit
•1 Corinthians 12:13 -For we were all
baptized (in) one Spirit
so as to form one
body—whether Jews
or Gentiles, slave or
free—and we were all
given the one Spirit to
drink.
•Many Parts Serve Many Purposes
•1 Corinthians 12:14-17
•Foot is not a hand but is still part of the
body.
•Ear is not an eye but is still a part of the
body.
Each part serves
the function for
which it was
formed.
•The Divinely
Ordered Nature of
the body
• Vs. 18 -- But in
fact God has
placed the parts in
the body, every one
of them, just as he
wanted them to be.
•God has assigned each of
the parts
•Vs. 21-24
•Eye cannot say it doesn’t need
the hand.
•Head cannot tell the feet it
doesn’t need them.
•“…But God has put the body
together, giving greater honor to
the parts that lacked it…”
•The Body must not be
divided
•Vs. 25-26 -- so that there
should be no division in
the body, but that its parts
should have equal
concern for each other. If
one part suffers, every part
suffers with it; if one part is
honored, every part
rejoices with it.
•Your Divine
Giftedness
•Vs. 27 -- Now
you are the
body of Christ,
and each one
of you is a part
of it.
