Urinary system • 10.1.9 Analyze the interdependence existing among the body system. • Describe the function of the Urinary system. • Identify the parts of the Urinary system. • Explain how to care for the Urinary system. • The main function of the Urinary system is to remove liquid waste. • It is made up of the kidneys, bladder, ureters, urethra. • Most of the excretory system is controlled by the nervous system. • Except when urinating. • Kidneys – Organs that filter water and dissolved waste from the blood. Help maintain the proper level of water and salt in the body. Substance filter out is called urine. • Ureters – Are narrow tubes that carry urine to the bladder from the kidneys. • Bladder – This is where the urine is stored until the bladder is full. • Urethra – Tube leaving from the bladder to the outside of the body. • On a signal from the nervous system the urine is released from the bladder into the urethra and out of the body. • Kidney stones – stones which are mineral crystals from in the kidneys. They block the exit of urine from the kidney to the bladder.
