LOVE FOR GOD – LOVE FOR PEOPLE
How do we come into to a place of significance and impact?

Part 2
Embracing
Declarations of
Resolved Belief
June 13, 2010
There are varying levels of belief
– No belief
– Surface belief
– Resolved belief
We can be exceedingly fruitful when we
understand and embrace 3 declarations
of resolved belief
Repentance
What is meant is not a merely intellectual
change of mind or mere grief, still less doing
penance, but a radical transformation of the
entire person, a fundamental turnaround
involving mind and action including overtones of
grief, which results in “fruit in keeping with
repentance.” Of course, all this assumes that
man’s actions are fundamentally off course and
need of radical change.”
(DA Carson)
John 6:52-54
The Jews then disputed among themselves,
saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to
eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say
to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of
Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my
blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on
the last day.
•“I was a good monk, and I kept the rule of my
order so strictly that I may say that if ever a monk
got to heaven by his monkery, it was I.”
• “Yet my conscience would never give me
assurance, but I was always doubting and said,
‘You did not perform that correctly. You were not
contrite enough. You left that out of your
confession.’ He conceded, ‘I was myself more
than once driven to the very abyss of despair so
that I wished I had never been created. Love God?
I hated him!’”
{Martin Luther}
John 6:52-54
The Jews then disputed among themselves,
saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to
eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say
to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of
Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my
blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up
on the last day.
My first declaration of belief to embrace:
I cannot be my own Savior - Jesus is my Savior.
John 6:55-56
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true
drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks
my blood abides in me, and I in him.
“I used to ask God to help me. Then I asked if I
might help Him. I ended up by asking Him to do his
work through me.” ~Hudson Taylor
My second declaration of belief to embrace:
Jesus is my source
John 6:57-58
As the living Father sent me, and I live because
of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also
will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that
came down from heaven, not like the bread the
fathers ate and died. Whoever feeds on this
bread will live forever.”
My third declaration of belief to embrace:
Jesus is my sustenance
Challenge
Embrace these declarations of resolved belief!
Jesus is my Savior
Jesus is source
Jesus is my sustenance
"This was their finest hour.”
