The Maccabees
 In 132 AD the Jewish people tried again
to overthrow the Roman’s
 Simon bar Kokhba was the leader of the
revolt
 Romans crushed the revolt and sent
almost all the Jews of Judaea into exile
and they would not rule Judaea again
for 1,800 years

Summary
 After many years under Greek rule, the Jews regained




control of Judaea.
The Roman Empire took control of Judaea in 63 BC.
The Roman’s destroyed the Second Temple in 70 AD
and later exiled nearly all the Jews.
Judaism, however, survived under the leadership of the
rabbis.
It influenced two other world religions: Christianity
and Islam.
