Course Content:
Kinetic Theory of gases; behavior of real gases
The laws of thermodynamics
Entropy, free energy; spontaneity of chemical processes
Reactions and phase equilibria
Reaction rates; rate laws
Mechanisms and theory of elementary processes
Photochemical reactions
Basic electrochemistry
This course is handled by two lecturers, Dr Mathews and myself. Dr Mathews will take
the topics in italics while I will take the remaining topics. For my part, the topics are
divided into 7 weeks of intense lectures, tutorials and simple practicals.
