What Are We Learning Today?
L.O. To read and write
Proper Fractions
Take 12 cubes
• 12 cubes joined together makes one
whole stick.
• If I divide the stick into 2 equal parts I will
have 2 halves.
• ½ + ½ = 1 whole
• If I now divide my stick into 4 equal parts I
will have 4 quarters.
• ¼ + ¼ + ¼ + ¼ = 1 whole
• How many cubes were in each half?
• How many cubes were in each quarter?
• If I take just one quarter, how many
quarters are left?
• So I could write ¼
+¾=1
• What would that be in cubes?
• What number sentence could I write to
show this?
3 + 9 = 12
