The Greeks and Trojans have been fighting for nine years
Both sides are getting tired of fighting
The Trojans are ready to surrender Helen, but Paris won’t let them
He is the prince of Troy, so what he says occurs
Paris came up with a solution so that no more blood would be shed on
either sides
Paris and Menelaus would have a hand-to-hand combat, and the
winner wins the war
In addition, the winner gets Helen
and surrenders

Paris is in a battle with Agamemnon because they did not want
anymore soldiers to die- it was a fight to the death
Aphrodite interferes and she transports Paris out of the battle and into
his bedroom
She then lures Helen into Paris’s bedroom
At first, Helen protests, but in the end, she succumbs to the goddess’s
power

The fighting continued

Hector, Paris’s older brother,is a Trojan champion
They call him the “Breaker of Horses”
Hector was in charge of the troops getting ready for battle and to fire
them up, or in other words, “Get them pumped”
Hector knew that his fate was to die on the battlefield of Troy, leaving
his wife and son to the hands of the Greeks

Achilles is a Greek champion
Patroclus, Achilles’s cousin, is in the war
Hectors army pushes the Greeks back to their ships
In retreat, Achilles lets Patroclous take the field in his place wearing his
armor and riding in his chariot
Hector then kills Patroclus

• Achilles kills Hector because he is so upset that Patroclus is
dead
• Achilles takes Hector’s armor and invites all other Greeks to
dishonor his corpse

Achilles holds a funeral for Patroclus
Patroclus’s corpse is burned
Hector’s corpse is dragged behind Achilles’s chariot to show the hatre
felt toward him
Hector’s father, Priam, goes to Achilles and begs for his son’s body
back
Priam does acquire his son’s body
The body is burnt and Hector’s bones are properly buried to show
respect
