Once a year the Fund for Companion
Animal Health Committee solicits
proposals from residents with a faculty
advisor for research projects. The
committee is looking for clear and
concise, “do-able” projects which can
ideally be completed within one year.
The project should have a strong
possibility of resulting in a first author
publication for the resident when a
resident is involved. The resident must
be heavily involved in the project and
should be exposed to research
techniques and theories.

The vision of the Human Animal Bond
Research Initiative (HABRI) Foundation
is to demonstrate that our relationship
with pets and animals make the world a
better place by significantly improving
human health and quality of life. HABRI
does this by advancing the growing
body of evidence about the positive
roles that companion animals play in
the integrated health of individuals,
families and communities.
HABRI is calling for research proposals
to investigate the health outcomes of
pet ownership and/or animal-assisted
activity or therapy, both for the people
and the animals involved. HABRI is
interested in proposals that involve a
variety of animals (e.g. dogs, cats, fish,
horses, reptiles, small animals).
Approximately $200,000 will be
available for multiple grants. It is
expected that between five and ten
grants will be awarded. Proposals
should focus on innovative approaches
to studying the health effects of animals
on humans within the following broad
categories:
