Europeans Explore the East
We will study how explorers traveled the globe and changed the world forever.
Using the maps on the back, complete the steps below to chart the destinations of
those countries that began an age of conquest, exploration, and trade.
On both maps locate and label these bodies of water and put the name in the proper place.

On the Old World Exploration Map:
- Locate and label The Netherlands (Dutch) and color it ORANGE.
- Color areas dominated (controlled or claimed) by the Dutch East Indian company
in Orange.
- Locate and label Japan and color it BLACK.
- Locate and label Portugal and color it YELLOW.
- Color all areas explored by the Portuguese in YELLOW
Trace the paths taken by these explorers on the Old World Explorers Map. (Put each explorer’s
name and the country they represented next to their exploration route.)
