6.6 Trapezoids and Kites
DO NOW
Calculate the midpoint:
1. 3 and 5
2. -6 and 10
3. (3, 5) and (7, 1)
4. (6, 5) and (-4, 1)
Today’s Objectives
1. Explore the properties of trapezoids.
Definition: Trapezoid
A quadrilateral with EXACTLY ONE pair of
parallel sides.
Parts of a Trapezoid
The PARALLEL SIDES are called BASES.
The OTHER SIDES are called LEGS.
Trapezoid Midsegment
The length of the midsegment is the
AVERAGE of the lengths of the bases.

Definition: Isosceles Trapezoid
A trapezoid with congruent legs.
Property: Isosceles Trapezoid
Both pairs of base angles are congruent.
Property: Isosceles Trapezoid
The diagonals are congruent.
Summary: Trapezoids
One pair of parallel sides (bases) and one
pair of non-parallel sides (legs).
Midsegment: Average of the base lengths.
Isosceles: Congruent legs, base angles, and
diagonals.
