Introduction
 The Problem Observed
– One of the unique aspects of American
Christianity is the doctrine of total abstinence
from all alcoholic beverages.
– This doctrine was never part of the history of
the Christian Church in the East or in the West.
– It was unheard of in Europe, the Middle East,
the Orient, and Latin America until American
missionaries arrived.

Introduction
 The Problem Observed
– It arose during the beginning of the
20th century in sympathy with Carry
Nation’s movement to add an 18th
Amendment to the Constitution
prohibiting alcoholic beverages.
– Many Christian leaders actually opposed
prohibition as conflicting with Scripture.
– They warned it would cause many problems.

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of
Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there, and Jesus and his
disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the
wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They don't have
any wine.”
Jesus said to her, “How does that concern us, woman?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells
you.”
Now standing there were six stone water jars used for
the Jewish rites of purification, each one holding from
twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the
jars with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.

Confess, Declare, Believe
 You must confess your sin, declare His

Your Prayer for Salvation
