Points • A point has no length or width, it just specifies an exact location. • We name this point with a number or letter. N A H For example: this is “Point H” Naming Lines True Lines never end, so we name them with any two given points on that line. B C We call this line BC or CB. Put double arrows above it. Naming Line Segments A line segment does not extend forever, but has two distinct endpoints. P Q We can call this PQ or QP K Put a bar over the name: KL Endpoint, not arrow. L Naming Rays Rays have one endpoint. We name it using that endpoint and any other given point on that ray. T S ST Put a line with one arrow head above it. Naming Angles Use the vertex and a point from each ray to name the angle. The vertex must be the middle letter. Also: just use the vertex. A B C ABC CBA B Sometimes we put this symbol in front of an angle: Classifying Angles • Acute Angles are smaller than 90 degrees. • Obtuse Angles are larger than 90 degrees. • Right Angles are exactly 90 degrees. Geometry Book: pages 4-6 • On a separate piece of paper: pg 4-6: 4-20 all • You may work in pairs, one paper per group. • Note: “collinear” means to make a line Not collinear Collinear 8
