Quartz Zefg - East Farrington pluton QAP ternary diagram plot of mineral point count analyses by Wagener (1965) of 40 samples collected from the East Farrington pluton (including data from the Farrington quadrangle). According to IUGS classification, the rocks plot mainly within the granite field. Normalized whole rock analysis from a sample (CH-5004) collected during the current mapping from Pritchards Mill Creek near the southern tip of University Lake indicates a granodiorite composition. CH-5004 Normalized Alkali-Felds Plagioclase Modal analyses from point counts of Wagener (1965) Quartz Zgr - Granite of the Chapel Hill pluton QAP ternary diagram plot of normalized whole rock analysis from sample CH-57. CH-57 Sample collected from new building construction on UNCChapel Hill campus. Alkali-Felds Plagioclase Quartz Zgd – Granodiorite Whole rock analysis from sample CH-150, collected from the Duke Forest area, and sample CH-2401, collected from outcrop located east of Boshamer Stadium on UNC campus, indicate a granodiorite composition. CH-150 CH-2401 Alkali-Felds Plagioclase Quartz Whole rock analysis from sample CH-880 collected from Morgan Creek approximately 2000 feet up stream from University Lake indicates an quartz monzodiorite/granodiorite composition. CH-880 Alkali-Felds Plagioclase Quartz Zdi – Diorite Whole rock chemical analyses from rock samples of Bland, 1972 which were collected from his diorite bodies within the Meadow Flats pluton were normalized and plotted on QAP diagrams for this study. According to IUGS nomenclature, the rocks plot as quartz monzodiorite and quartz diorite. Bland 1972 Diorite data Alkali-Felds Zqmd– Quartz monzodiorite Plagioclase Quartz Zqmd - Quartz monzodiorite: The rocks within the map areas designated as quartz monzodiorite appear similar to the typical diorite. Rare pinkish alkali feldspar is present in some samples (specifically on the south side of Blackwood Mountain). Whole rock chemical analyses from 9 rock samples of Bland, 1972 which were collected from his granodiorite bodies within the Meadow Flats pluton were normalized and plotted on QAP diagrams for this study. According to IUGS nomenclature, the rocks previously categorized as granodiorite plot as quartz monzodiorite. Alkali-Felds Plagioclase Bland 1972 Granodiorite data Zdi-fine – Fine-grained Diorite Whole rock analysis from a sample collected near the intersection of NC Hwy 86 (Airport Road) and Summerview Drive (CH-746) indicates a quartz monzodiorite composition. CH-746 Zgb – Gabbro Whole rock chemical analyses from rock samples of Bland, 1972 which were collected from his gabbros bodies within the Meadow Flats pluton were normalized and plotted on QAP and Pl/Pyx/Ol diagrams for this study. According to IUGS nomenclature, the composition of the rocks vary from gabbro, quartz gabbro, and quartz monzogabbro. Plagioclase Quartz Bland 1972 data CH-10 CH-1014 leucogabbro Alkali-Felds Plagioclase Pyroxene Olivine Zum – Ultramafic Whole rock analysis from a sample collected east of Iron Mine Hill (CH-2027) plots within the olivineclinopyroxenite field on a Ol/Opx/Cpx ternary diagram.
