The Old Babylonian Loan Contract Its History and Geography Aaron Skaist The loan constitute the largest category of Old Babylonian period (c. 2000-1600 BCE ) contracts form Lower Mesopotamia. In this volume the author traces the history of loan contract types and their specific clauses in conjunction with their geographical distribution. It is noted that various loan types are common to all of Lower Mesopotamia, whereas others have a limited geographical distribution which generally reflect a North-South Old Babylonian dichotomy. The same conclusion is applicable to the individual clauses. The unusual increase in modifications of both types and individual clauses during the 18th century BCE may reveal current socio-economic changes. 294 pp. English. Hardcover. 1995.
