with great emphasis on preventive,promotive,curative
and rehabilitive health care services.
• It is duly Registered under the Societies Registration
Act, 1860,India
• It is in Operation since 1984.
• The Organization, has been working for- the Total
Health Care, RCH,MCH, Caring & Helping the Disabled,
Women Rights, Empowerment of Women, Skill
Training in Health Service Delivery to young
women,Community Awareness ,Upliftment of Weaker
Sections and well being of Children, specially the Girl

• St. Mary’s Poly Clinic was started by lady Dr. Brigeetha VV, hailing from
Kerala.
• The Clinic began in 1984.
• The small Clinic has now grown into a Polyclinic with facilities as a Referral
Centre.
• Clinic converted into Registered Charitable Society as St. Mary’s Polyclinic
on 29th April 1988 under Societies Registration Act, 21, 1860.
• St. Mary’s Polyclinic Lucknow is inspired by followers of St. Francis Assisi,
known as the Capucinus.
• Supported by Capucinus of India, Italy and Switzerland,
• Patronised and guided by Late Bishop Conrad D Vito of Lucknow
• It Grew with Nurturing care of Fr. Nobert Bucci and Fr. Peter Degli Esposti
& many others
• Patients specially the poor, came first in trickles and then in steady stream
• From single staff –the founder of this institution . Two more added in two
months time, and a patient turned watchman making it three.
• Top priority given to disease prevention, mother & child health &
immunization activities.
• After 30 years of operational existence, Clinic - is now a Referral Health
Centre

• Outpatient Clinic started on outskirts of Lucknow with Staff of three
• Four Beds and a small Laboratory added.
• MCH activities including immunization & institutional deliveries begin.
• Simple Dharamshala added.
1987-1989
• Disabilities Programmes Launched .
• Eye Camps .
• Operation Theatre added with General Obs/Gynaec Surgery.
• Bed Strength increased to 12.
• Clinic converted into Poly Clinic.
• Society is Registered.

strength of 30 Students each respectively.
• General Practitioners Training Program as a Mental Health Program conducted in collaboration with
Department of Psychiatry, KGMU
• Physiotherapy Department expanded with installation of advanced machines like- Ultrasonic TENS &
Muscle stimulators.
• Silver Jubilee Year of St. Mary’s Polyclinic marked with Smile –on-Wheels”, a fully equipped Mobile
Health Van launched in collaboration with Smile Foundation, New Delhi.
• NICU inaugurated with qualified staff and highly advanced equipments like Phototherapy machines,
Baby Warmer, Vital Monitors.
• St Mary’s School of Nursing inaugurated with approval from UP State Medical Faculty and Indian
Nursing Council to run General Nursing & Mid Wifery 3 ½ Year Course and Basic Health Nursing
Program 1 ½ Year Course.
• Full Patient Services computerized.
• Clown Therapy introduced.Project concept being to bring smile on the faces of people and help them
to heal soon. It also gave us a medium to spread awareness among the people regarding health and
other general topics.

• Fr.Peter and Fr.Norbert Memorial Free Mega Health Camp at GONDA Organized. More than 15000
Patients participated and provided with free medications.

Key activities include –
• REGULAR ANTENATAL CHECK-UPS:Pregnant women come for Registrations for Check-ups.
They are routinely examined and provided with T.T.
injections, iron folic tablets, and routine investigations
helping MMR reduction.
• FAMILY PLANNING PROGRAMMES:Couples are proved with counseling & spacing methods
are explained and all Ffertile Couples given training on
choice of type of Family Planning Methods

• ACTIVITIES FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED AND REHABILITATION
WORKS: Rehabilitation for physically disabled like polio, spastic, paralysis,
crippling, arthritis, etc. by physiotherapy, encouraging physically
disabled to become self-dependant.
 Staff gives regular training by regular physiotherapy with low cost
equipments which can be improved at home.
 Through this department we encourage community based rehabilitation
rather than institutionalization.
 Teaching and training are also provided free of cost.
 All reconstructive surgery are conducted here.
 There is well-equipped Physiotherapy Department with SWD, Wax Bath,
Traction, Ultrasonic Multi Exerciser, Acupuncture, Muscles Stimulator,
TNS, Magnet, etc.
 We also have locally improvised equipments so that people can imitate
them at home.
 Well Trained Physiotherapists care for the patients.
 Seminars conducted throughout year for spreading awareness among
disabled people.

• RESOURCE CENTRE: Doctors of St. Mary's Polyclinic are invited by NIPCCID, BPCL, SIRD etc. to give
Llectures to their Trainees, Supervisors & Workers, on different topics. Trainees
from the above Iinstitutions also Visit our Polyclinic for the Orientation and Field
Exposure.
• TRAINING LOCAL PRACTITIONERS: Local Practitioners are provided with information, making them more useful for
Society.
• PULSE POLIO: St. Mary's Polyclinic is assisting the government in achieving 100%
immunization.
 St. Mary's is Surveillance Center for AFP Reporting for Control of POLIO.
• COMPUTERIZATION OF HOSPITAL WORK
 OPD, Diagnostic, and Indoor Patients Billing are Computerized.

• MEDICAL & HEALTH CAMPS: - (RURAL OUTREACH SERVICES)
 For patients unable to reach us, we reach out to the communities
and conduct large number of regular camps in different remote
rural areas by taking well-equipped medical van along with
qualified doctor, nurses, medical staff, equipments and medicines.
• SAMBHAV VOUCHER YOJNA
 Agreement Signed between St. Mary’s Polyclinic and Voucher
Management Unit, Lucknow to implement Voucher Scheme of
SIFPSA “SAMBHAV” in Lucknow urban slums. Under which BPL
families were provided free ANC, DELIVERY Facilities, PNC, Family
Planning, RTI/STI and General Health Check-up facilities for the
year-2011.
 Total 272 Patients were benefited in 2011-12 in which 215 patients
visited for ANC and 43 patients for delivery.
 Scheme renewed for the year 2012 also.

• DIALYSIS UNIT:
 To meet the continuous demand of dialysis unit from the kidney and
other related patients; “Fresenins Haemodialysis Model No.-4008-S”
along with RO Plant was installed and Dialysis unit was started.
• NEW TATA WINGER AMBULANCE
 New Tata Winger Ambulance was purchased in November-2011,
sponsored by Namaste Onlus, Italy.
• ST. MARY’S ACADEMIC PROGRAMME: 3rd batch of students admitted from Sept-11for GNM and BHW
courses(40 each)
 Admission done for the 4th batch of Two Year Courses Diploma in O T
Technician & in Physiotherapy Tech. (UPSMF) for the Session 2011-12.
 AUXILIARY NURSE & MIDWIFE / B.H.W. (FEMALE) (Final-Year)-2nd Batch
Exam held on JUNE – 2012 and 100% result obtained.

• CONSTRUCTON OF HOSTEL:Construction of Nursing Hostel completed. Total 75
Nursing Sstudents are residing in the Hostel.
Separate Transformer installed for Electricity Supply to
Hostel. Generator and Submersible Pump installed for
24 hours Electricity and Water Supply.
• DISTRIBUTION OF SCHOLARSHIP:St. Mary’s Polyclinic is providing Scholarships to 44
students annually.
Gifts also distributed every year to nearly 100 children
which includes Stationeries, Toys, Chocolates and
other useful things required in daily use.
Community Interventions & Projects
St.Mary’s Polyclinic has been working with Communities. Interventions including Poverty Elimination
 We worked with people’s participation to eliminate poverty.
 To this end we looked for agriculture development.
 We realized missing gap was to improve the farming by high quality seeds,
fertilizers and irrigation. These were provided to the villagers.
 In a few years, agricultural fields improved manifolds.
 The Farmers’ Cooperative Society took the lead in improving further in their
fields,
 We worked on reclamation of land under floods through Project for Drainage
Canal Construction with People’s Particiation which facilitated Paddy farming
 People were taught and exposed to the importance of Compost Fertilizer, and
almost every house had built manure pits for the same.
 People were informed ,made aware and taught Water Sharing, Village
Development efforts,children’s education ,resolution of Community Issues
peacefully through meetings.
 Their attitudinal change of sharing was built up.
 Women also received simultaneous Trainings in Breast Feeding, Nutrition,
Healthy Pregnancy, Raising of Marriage Age, Kitchen Gardening,etc.
 Animal Husbandry Training was also provided.
 Hygiene and immunization were routine talk.

Education
 People of thet area were given opportunities to recognize the
importance of education.
 Slowly they started to send their children, especially the male children,
in trickling manner, but soon they started to come in large numbers.
 Girl attendance remained very low. So an effort was made with the
Women in the Forum of Adult Literacy. This made the women to realize
importance of education for the female children. So the female children
started to attend the classes in small numbers.
 Slowly their attendance increased. We had also made a number of
make shift schools under the trees to create the enthusiasm in the
children. This all helped in improving literacy for children.
Communication and Transportation
 Need for Link Roads linking the Village and the Main Bazaars was
commonly felt.
 The Institution managed Food for Work from the Catholic Relief
Services(CRS),resulting in large number of link and approach roads
getting built/constructed in Gonda.

Low Cost Housing
 Large number of Low Cost Houses were constructed for needy poor and
downtrodden.
 Surprisingly initially they could not enjoy the pucca houses .Slowly they
enjoyed.
Disability Management
 Special care for disabled people was given.
 We did things like Daily Living Exercise, Training their positioning and
simple exercises with help of their parents and relatives and good
nutrition, resulting in magical improvement in rehabilitation of large
number of physically disabled.
 Many Camps were conducted and Appliances and Calipers provided.
 Many received ongoing physiotherapy, which improved them.
 The success of the work gave our Director the title of POLIO DOCTOR in
the Community
 For this group of People, we did preventive, curative, promotive and
rehabilitative work.
 Many of them were integrated back into their own society.

Leprosy Work
Persons suffering from leprosy always suffered from
separation from the family and the society, always
treated as outcasts.
The people never thought that they could stay in their
homes. We worked for them with skills and
knowledge.
A survey was done to identify the leprosy patients and
to give them proper treatment and management for
their skin and wounds.
Families were also given counseling for the integration
of the patients into their family with our team’s
efforts.
They started to live their own normal life.

Other Activities in the Rural Areas of Gonda District
Training of Local People including men and women as
health guides for the rural areas.
Trainings of local practitioners to improve their skills.
Training of Traditional Birth Attendants was started in
villages for enhancing skills and knowledge for saving life of
mother and child, and for creating awareness on family
planning
Made some Mobile Libraries with plenty of Health
Literatures for Villagers.
Large numbers of Community Meetings were conducted for
sharing and expressing their problems in Agriculture, Social
Problems, Exploitations, Poverty, Illiteracy, etc.

Flood Relief Works
 Major Flood Relief work we did was in 1985 when Kursi Road was under
water.
 We had to work very hard with immediate relief work for which we took
the cooperation of Colleges and Schools.
 Loreto Convent School was the best supporting in these programs.
 Slowly caritas came in and helped in long term management.
 We got a quick chance to learn about new areas and the people we were
going to work with.
Women Empowerment
 We gave maximum concern for changing the attitude of the women
towards changing the attitude of the Community.
 Slowly, we picked up some villages and worked with the help of
DWACRA.
 Many women got the chance to learn cutting, tailoring, adult literacy
and formed women self help groups.

Slums Work
 We organized children of nearby slums to give Right of the Child for Education
and Health.
 We organised routine check up and regular classes for them.
 Rest of the time they were Rag Pickers.
 Occasionally we conducted support for them and also gave a lot of exposure to
other recreational activities.
Population Control
 The SIFPSA approached us to work for the Project of Safe Motherhood and
Child Survival.
 We took up the Project and implemented the Project in DEVA Block of District
Barananki.
 This was a Project for a Period of Three Years initially, and the extension for
another two years.
 We as a Team, thoroughly enjoyed working with the women of the village.
 They really understood the meaning of having a small size family and its
advantage.
 Through continuous training, demands were created, and trained CBD workers
made Family Welfare Camps popular.
 As a result large number of couples accepted Family Planning as a challenge for
the betterment of their family.

Project of Training Traditional Birth Attendants supported by SIFPSA
 This Project gave a chance to Train the Traditional Birth Attendants of District
Sitapur.
 Our Institute was selected as an implementing Agency initially in the Pilot
Project.
 After completing successfully the Pilot Project it was extended in all the 19
Blocks of District Sitapur.
 It was an interesting experience to have worked with the expert Partner
Agencies during this Project.
 The trained TBAs are always an asset and support for the Community in their
efforts for the Safe Motherhood and Child Survival and Population Control.
Community Based Distribution Project in Rampur,Mathura,Sitapur (SIFPSA
SUPPORTED)
 We had a chance to Plan and Organize the Team to implement the Project in
Rampur & Mathura with efficiency and knowledge.
 Through these Programs we also had a chance to be with the community and
especially with the women.
 The Trained Women and TBA of the Area behaved like knowledgeable persons
for the cause of the population control.

Community Based Rehabilitation
 St Mary’s Polyclinic has been working for the Community Based
Rehabilitation.
 We had been successful in rehabilitating some of them by income
generation,
 getting them married,
 giving them opportunities to express themselves in the community.
 We give individual attention to each and every one of them because it is
an individual problem and not a mass problem.
TB Clinic DOTS Centre
 St.Mary’s Polyclinic is supporting the Government in taking care of TB
Patients under revised National TB Control Program by implementing
DMC NGO/PP Scheme of RNTCP in which Tb Patients are provided
medicine free of cost.
 Patients have to consume drugs at our DOTS Centre in presence of the
health worker Thrice Weekly.
 Various TB Patients of adjoining locality are availing the facility at our
institution.

Cooperating with Government
 We have been cooperating with Government efforts.
 We extended help to improve activities such as Polio Control
Program, Population Control and Safe Motherhood and Child
Survival.
 Thus, St. Mary’s Polyclinic is a Surveillance Centre for AFP
Program.
Medical & Health Facilities Provider
 The PolyClinic is a non – profit making well organized institution
with great emphasis on preventive, promotive curative and
rehabilitive work, health education, family welfare, mother &
child health activities, Antenatal Checkups, Child Welfare and
Immunization.
 It has both institutionalized referrals as well as community based
activities for up gradation of the Polyclinic to Super Specialty and
to cater we added many more experienced Super Specialists.
 Now, St. Mary Polyclinic is capable of looking after all life
threatening emergencies by life saving measures.

College of Nursing and Paramedical Institute
Since we have the capacity for training people we
thought of giving formal training of Diploma Courses so
that they can earn permanently.
Now we have over three hundred Girls students per
year.
Our passed out students are in good jobs.
Their dedication, discipline and punctuality are the hall
mark.
Mobile Hospital
Mobile Hospital is regularly operative in remote villages
and slim areas.
The objective is to provide health to the needy and
unreached.

 Undertook provision for Job Oriented Nursing Training.
 Have capability and experience in Training of Dais, Trained Birth
Attendants etc.
 First Academic Activity Wing of St. Mary's Polyclinic Society, started as
St. Mary's Paramedical Institute in 2007.
 Initiated with Vocational Training Programs, Diploma in Nursing
Assistant Course.
 Soon promoted to St. Mary's School of Nursing and then St. Mary's
College of Nursing & Paramedical Institute.
Within a span of few years we started various job oriented courses like –

 Curriculum and Integration of Theory and Practice: Curriculum
aimed to prepare well skilled and qualified Nurses to serve the
Society with integration of theory and practical experiences
(clinical and mental health) and field experiences (community) as
per Indian Nursing Council.
 Seminars and Workshops: Seminars & Workshops are planned /
organized to inculcate leadership, communicative, & training skills
in students by educationists, specialists, and students. Some
workshops organized were by St. ]ohn's Ambulance Association,
Abilasha, Dr. Reddy Foundation, Hope Organization, National Skill
Development Commission etc.
 Sport & Games:We encourage/promote students in
extracurriculars through Sports & Cultural Events.
