Math Topics for Research
Pascal’s Triangle
Fibonacci Number Sequence
The Golden Ratio
Tessellations
Imaginary Numbers
Irrational Numbers
You need to be able to find information about these topics on the Internet. You must
have at least 3 different web addresses you gather your information from. You need to
be able to answer the following type of questions:

What is it?

Who created or discovered it?

Why is it important in math?

Give an example of the topic. (You may need to write a number pattern or sketch a
visual pattern.)

How does this topic apply to math?

When was it discovered?

The name of each website you used to find the information.

Who was your partner?
After gathering the above information, you need to create a “Work Cited” page, which
is where you will list the names of each website you used. This is so I know where you
gathered your information—You must give credit to peoples’ work when you use it!
Your project must be at least 4 handwritten pages or two typed pages long. It must
be in research style format with a cover page, appropriate paragraphs, correct grammar
and punctuation, and a work cited page.
I can tell if you are using YOUR THOUGHTS or someone else’s thoughts so do NOT
copy their work! If you copy someone else’s work it is PLAGARISM and you will receive
a zero test grade. Copying and pasting is NOT allowed!
When you type up your research paper you must give all the information you have
learned about your topic.
Page 1 of your research paper should contain the following:

Title Page

Your first and last name

Your partner’s first and last name

The class periods you are in my class

My name

Date (you turn in your paper)
Page 2 or more of your research paper:
This is where your actual paper starts. It should be no shorter than 4 handwritten pages
or 2 typed pages. Page numbers should be listed at the bottom right of your papers.
(MAKE SURE YOU NUMBER YOUR PAGES: PAGE 1, PAGE 2, PAGE 3…)
At the end of your research paper:
You need to put your Work Cited page.
