CCNA® – Academy Alignment to the Cisco Certified Network Associate The Cisco Networking Academy provides students with foundation training in the area of small networks, typically consisting of 100 or fewer nodes. This training is offered in four courses called CCNA1, CCNA2, CCNA3, and CCNA4. In addition to this foundation training, these courses assist the student in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully pass the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exam. The CCNA certification is recognized by the networking industry as a leading qualification. Cisco Industry Certification Information A Cisco certification ensures employers that certified workers have demonstrated high levels of technical knowledge and hands-on skills. Achieving Cisco certification, at any level, means that individuals join the ranks of skilled network professionals who have earned recognition and respect in the industry. Additionally, IT professionals who are Cisco certified typically earn more in the workplace than those without certification. CCNA Certification Information Professionals holding the CCNA certification will be able to design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot most PC-based networks found in small and medium sized businesses. By demonstrating an ability to learn and apply complex networking concepts, these professionals have also proven that they have the foundationa l skills and knowledge necessary to learn and excel in higher level IT careers. To be certified, a candidate must have knowledge of networking concepts that includes IP and advanced IP addressing (including NAT and VLSM), common network routing protocols (including RIP v1, RIP v2, EIGRP, and OSPF), Wide Area Network architecture and technologies (including Frame Relay, PPP and ISDN), switching operation and configuration, and basic network design and troubleshooting. Certification Path and Training A candidate for the CCNA has two examination path options. Path (1) INTRO (640-821) + ICND (640-811) or Path (2) CCNA (640-801) = CCNA = CCNA For more information, please see: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/learning/le3/le2/le0/le9/learning_certification_type_home.html Cisco Certification Exams INTRO ICND CCNA Required Cisco Networking Academy Training CCNA1 and CCNA2* CCNA2, CCNA3 and CCNA4 CCNA1, CCNA2, CCNA3 and CCNA4 * The INTRO exam does not include tasks from routing protocol configuration and operation or access control lists even though they are covered in CCNA2. Exam Preparation Resources The educational tools and resources made available to Academy students provide a robust foundation and will assist the student in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully complete CCNA certification. In addition to the extensive hands-on lab experience that students receive in the Cisco Networking Academy program, other educational tools and resources are available to Academy students. These additional resources include: • • • • • • Instructor-led lectures Online curriculum Online quizzes and assessments (presented in a similar format as the certification exam) Instructor-assisted hands-on labs Practice certification exams Practice simulations (eLabs and Packet Tracer) External resources for exam preparation available to Academy students include the CCNA Prep Center. The CCNA Prep Center is designed to assist those preparing for the CCNA certification. Although this site contains useful content for CCNA candidates, it does not cover all the skills and knowledge that a candidate needs to prepare for the CCNA Certification exams. Additional information, training, and support are required to pass the exam.
