Mitosis Drawing Draw, color, and label: – The life cycle of a cell including • Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, and Cytokinesis. – Make sure to label • Nucleus, Nuclear Membrane, DNA/Chromosomes, Parent Cells, Daughter Cells. – Show what is happening to the DNA/Chromosomes at each step of the process. A Cell Life Cycle A Cell’s life… Consists of 3 main parts 1. Interphase (I) – cell is hanging out. 2. Mitosis – If a cell decides to divide it undergoes Mitosis (PMAT) 3. Cytokinesis (C) – Two daughter cells created Interphase Phase 1Interphase – Cell resting – DNA is in little single threads. – DNA is doubled and the cell gets bigger. Mitosis Phase 2- Prophase – Mitosis begins – Chromosomes are in their “x” like shape. – Centrioles move to poles – Spindle fibers connect centrioles DNA change from phase 1 to 2 Interphase DNA is Chromatin (bunch of squiggles with no clear shape) Prophase DNA is organized into sister chromatids which make a chromosome. Centriole Change from interphase to Prophase Interphase Prophase – Centrioles start to move to poles and spindle fibers start to connect them. Nucleus Mitosis Phase 3Metaphase – They line up in middle of cell – Chromosomes attach to spindle fibers Mitosis Phase 4Anaphase – Sister chromatids pull apart – One sister of each pair goes to opposite ends of the cell Mitosis Phase 5Telophase – 2 new nuclei form – Mitosis is complete – Chromosomes are undone again (chromatin) Mitosis Phase 6Cytokinesis – Cytoplasm pinches in to form 2 new identical daughter cells Which phase of mitosis is this?
