1. Registered Nurse – With a current certificate of registration with the NMC

ROLE
The role is to provide high quality nursing services, which includes Health Promotion, to the
practice population in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Team, meeting the needs of
the patients and supporting the delivery of the practice policies and procedures. The post
holder will work within their professional competence in accordance with the NMC Code of
Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.

1. Professional Responsibilities
To work within NMC Guidelines and to agreed practice protocols
To maintain high standards of clinical practice by ensuring the application of available
evidence based research and agreed protocols
To work in collaboration with the Primary Health Care team to address identified individual
and population needs
To identify and address own learning needs by participation in the processes of personal
professional and practice development planning
To access clinical supervision
To maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records and registers in accordance with
practice policy
To maintain confidentiality in accordance with NMC and agreed Practice and Information
Governance policy.

2. Clinical Responsibilities to include;
Administer routine injections in accordance with the practice policy i.e. Depo-Provera,
flu vaccinations, adult tetanus/polio boosters, childhood immunisations, adult travel vaccines
and completion of patient cards/forms and issue of yellow fever certificates, antibiotic
injections, anti-psychotic injections and steroid injections.
Provide women's health services including cervical cytology and advice on contraception and
the menopause according to practice policy.
Ensure that the practices relationship with the health support team is maintained by regular
meetings.
To undertake nurse minor illness consultations
To undertake nurse chronic disease consultations such as diabetes and asthma
To manage the treatment of minor injuries, wounds, dressing and treatment of leg ulcers,
suture removal, basic eye care, ear examination and syringing.
To undertake investigative procedures including venepuncture and ECG
To prepare and assist with minor surgical procedures
To prepare and assist with the fitting of IUCD’s
To prepare and assist with the removal of Implants
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff,
GP’s and Practice Manager.
To be responsible for the assessment of health needs of patients and the provision of
care/treatment in conjunction with the GP, other members of the PHCT or independently,
undertaken ongoing evaluation of the care/treatment outcomes, modifying practice as
necessary and documenting progress.

Additional responsibilities
The candidate will liaise and refer to other health care professionals, attend and participate in
practice meetings on a regular basis, report any areas of concern, prepare purchase orders in
conjunction with the admin team for ordering of drugs and clinical supplies.

protocols and the implementation of.
To identify appropriate leaflets for health promotion, ensuring adequate stocks are available,
keeping leaflet holders in the waiting room stocked at all times in conjunction with the Health
Care Assistant.
To attend and participate in practice meetings on a regular basis
To develop effective communication pathways with all members of the practice team.
To provide a friendly, happy and positive working environment for both staff and patients
To work with other members of the team towards the achievement of targets defined in
‘raising standards in primary care’.
To ensure doctors’ and your treatment room are fully stocked and clean at all times.
To ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
Assist in and perform routine admin tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing
staff, GP’s and Practice Manager.

gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so
in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act
appropriately. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the
post-holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients and their
carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to
information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information
from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential. Information relating to
patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice
may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies
and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive
data.
